I'm a student that choose to join a group called DC Reads in the winter of last year. To my good fortune, I was assigned as a third grade aide... in the classroom of Katrinka M. Agurs. Working with Ms. Agurs was a truly special opportunity. Rarely before have I seen a teacher work with such patience, grace, and kindness. Rarely have I seen a teacher care so much for the well-being and improvement of each and every young boy and girl in her classroom. Ms. Agurs was in the business of helping people, and she did it better than almost anyone I've ever met. She made me feel welcome in that classroom from day one, and I will always miss her beautiful spirit. My heart goes out to the Agurs family. It strikes me how unlikely it was that our lives ever crossed paths, but I know I'm a better person because of it. Rest easy, Ms. Agurs.

Trina we miss you so much, but I'm glad you are no longer in pain. You are resting with The Lord. I keep thinking about the summer you spent with us when we were children and how much we looked up to you. Those memories always put a smile on my face. Rest well.

I will remember my cousins drive and pursuit of her passion to teach and equip children to live successfully in the world. I remember when she was in college so focused on realizing her dream. She did it and in doing so she has left her legacy in the world to carry on. Each child she touched, taught and empowered has the ability live better because of her. Trina loved her family and has a golden spirit. God has embraced her and said no more pain. We will miss her but we know her love lives on in her children and grandson. Goodbye for now.
