Just discovered this obituary online after I ran across these photos of Ken and me. We were fast friends in high school and after graduation we bought a `55 dodge for $150 and drive it 13,000 miles around the country and into Mexico and Canada. Ken was adventurous to say the least, and smart enough to get me to do his math homework for him.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Kovach. He was truly a great person. I had him for two classes back in 1995/1996 at GMU. Everytime I hear of labor relations in the news, I always think of him and the wisdom and insight he had. I even found myself watching his classes on the GMU-TV show as recently as last fall. He was still the same and would always preface things with" don't write this down but..." or "Now you do care, start writing" He was a great man and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I was truly shocked to hear of the death of Dr. Kovach. Several of my classmates and I were unable to concentrate in class once we heard the news of his passing. He was a great teacher, lecturer and a wonderful story teller. I will always remember him!

I just discovered today when I received the GMU alumni newsletter by email that Dr. Kovach had passed away. I am deeply saddened -- he was my favorite professor at GMU and I enjoyed seeing him on the GMU cable network. Whenever I saw him on TV, I would always tell my daugther how great of a professor he was. My condolences go out to his family.

I am proud to be the younger brother of Ken Kovach. He and I always had very different philosophies on most aspects of living. A marine and a hippie traversing the North American and European continents together. Fiercly competing on everything from the ballfield to the tennis courts to the card table. Never losing respect for each other while disagreeing constantly...Ken, you were a mans man and you will always be a hero in my eyes.

Ken, my brother-in-law, what can I say. We had some great conversations and you teased alot. Your brother Bill hurts so much, but I am glad you were able to spend as much time as you did together or over the phone. I miss your sense of humor. Bill remembers the time you both agreed on music together, Bob Dylan. You were impressed that your little hippie brother new words to the songs. We are hurting, but we have our memories. Thank you Ken for being you. We will watch out for your family. Lots of Love, your sister-in-law, Brenda

I am Mr. Kovach's oldest daughter and I just wanted to thank all of you so much for all of your kind words in this time of grieving for our family. My father was a very proud, strong and humble man who loved the work he did each day with his collegues and students. Just yesterday we received a letter in the mail addressed to my father saying he had been nominated for another award that he had been recommended for by a student. And although he often received awards his family knew that was not what it was about for my dad; for him it was about each of you. I knew my daddy was smiling not b/c he had been nominated for the award but b/c obviously he had touched a student, and that's what it was about for him.
Each of you taking the time to just speak a few good words about my father helps me personally in this time to have some more memories to hold on to. Thank you and God Bless you all from the bottom of my heart.

It is said teachers "touch the future." As evidenced by the comments from his students, past and present Ken did.
I had known Ken for over 30 years as graduate students, and colleagues; but of greatest importance, as friends. He is missed.

The news of Professor Kovach's passing leaves me feeling rather somber as I start my final semester in the School of Management at George Mason University. In my mind, he's moved on to bigger and better contracts to negotiate ... other students to teach and entertain. But what a legacy he left for us! Professor Kovach will be missed -- not only by those students fortunate enough to have taken a class (or more) with him, but by the future students of the School of Management at George Mason University who will not get the opportunity. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kovach family and friends.

I had the pleasure of taking the famous MGMT 431 and MGMT 331 classes at Mason with Dr. Kovach during the 2002 fall and 2003 spring semesters. His classes were most entertaining, full of life, knowledge, and personal stories. He was a great man and touched the lives of many students. I will miss him greatly, and forever cherish his stories.

Ken and I first met in the mid-90's when we both served as adjunct professors for the University of Maryland University College. Since we taught many of the same subjects, several of my students had Professor Kovach before enrolling in my classes. I stopped counting the number of times I heard how inspiring and motivational he was and how much he was respected as an outstnading teacher. And, once I met him, I knew everything I heard was accurate. He was truly an inspiration to me as well.

I have known Kovach since my first management class at GMU in 1996. He was, by far, the best professor I ever had. We had grown to become good friends. He was like a father to me. The news of his passing is very difficult to swallow. I will forever remember his smile, compassion, and dedication to his students. My condolences to his family. He will always be in my heart and never forgotten.

I am very sad to hear about the death of Dr. Kovach. He inspired me to choose Human Resources Management as a profession. I was a student at the University of Maryland in the early 90s. I was very unfocused and unsure of which field I should go into. I took Dr. Kovich's HR Management couse and was inspired by his great lectures on his experiences as a negotiator and consultant. After that semester, I pursued HR as a profession. I am sorry that I never got to thank him for making such a difference in my life.

I have worked with Ken since 1987. I am so deeply saddened and shocked by his death. To say that he was special, not replaceable and that he will be greatly missed are great understatements. I will miss him greatly as a friend, colleague and scholar.

I have known Ken as a friend and colleague for 19 years. His sudden death is shocking. I regret that I did not have the opportunity to express my gratitude to Ken for his dedication to GMU and the support he gave to me over the years.
Best wishes to his wife and family.

An unexpected, terrible loss. As a relatively new faculty at GMU, I always received small encouraging smiles and nods whenever I happened to meet him in campus.
