Lary Lyn Acker (Age 87)

Lary Lyn Acker of Chester, MD passed away on May 2, 2023. He was 87 years old.

Born on September 18, 1935, in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of Lawrence W. Acker and Jessie Lucille (Racey) Acker.

Lary graduated in 1957 from the University of Maryland, College Park and was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He began his business, Acker and Sons, Inc. Plumbing and Heating, in 1961.

Lary was involved with the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for many years, as the president of the local chapter and as an officer for the national chapter. In 1988, he chaired their national convention in Washington DC. He served on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington YMCA and was named volunteer of the year. He also served on the local board of YMCA Camp Letts in Edgewater, MD, and was a business donor for the Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA.

Lary is survived by his wife, Lynne Acker; his children, Holly Acker Godaire, Bradley Lyn Acker, Kimberley Acker Yates, and Rodney Lyn Acker; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Acker Shifren; and a brother, Darryl K. Acker.

Lary loved his family; his years of boating; his John Deere tractor; and his home on the water. He was a loving and giving man.
