Lawrence "Larry" Zok, 74, of Panama City Beach, FL, died on Sunday, December 29. 2024 following a long illness, and of sepsis.

Larry is survived by his wife of 35 yrs, Marna Sherk Zok. He is also survived by brothers, James Zok and Andy Zok and sisters, Barbara Zok and Irene Allen; step-daughter, Amanda Jackson (Kevin) and step-son, Eric Prestemon (Laura Kline); brother-in-law, Grant Sherk, III, sister-in-law, Linda Sherk Postelle; and seven nieces and nephews. Larry also remained close to many grade school, high school, and Marine Corps friends.

He was a high school athlete, playing football and baseball at McLean High School, from which he graduated in 1968. He enlisted in the Marine Corps before graduation, becoming a squadron aviation operations clerk and landing in Viet Nam on his 20th birthday. He served in HMM 262 and while serving as squadron clerk, also flew medevac and insertion missions as a door gunner, thus earning Combat Aircrew Wings. Other medals received include the Purple Heart, Air Medal, and Navy/Marine Commendation with Combat V.

After returning to civilian life, he worked in restaurant and business management and graduated from Mesa (AZ) Community College with an Associate of Arts degree. In 1994 he began a new career as a Licensed Real Estate Appraiser, with AREAS appraisers, a career he successfully continued until 2009 when his illness made it impossible.

In 1996 he joined the USMC VietNam Helicopter and Tiltrotor Association (also known as Popasmoke), serving faithfully as a volunteer. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, Loudoun Detachment and volunteered with Toys for Tots.

Interment is scheduled for April 29 at 11:30 a.m. at Quantico National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to USMC VietNam Helicopter and Tiltrotor Association scholarship fund (Popasmoke.com).
