Memories and Condolences
for LEE RADEK

Not sure what to say?

January 29, 2019

It has been six years since Ron and I heard the sad news, but our fond memories of Lee are still vivid in our hearts and minds. I still remember that pristine night at Shenvalle sitting outdoors. Lee went through his series of TV themes. The Shenvalle group enjoying the camaraderie of that special night.

Jill: I just learned of Lee's death. I was hoping he might be available to advise a former agent who is a client on matters within his area of expertise. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Lee, at least as I remember him, was a jovial, happy fellow. I regret not having the opportunity to visit with him one last time.

To Jill and family:

I was deeply shocked and sadden to learn of Lee's death. He was a dear friend to me for over 20 years. Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Lee appreciated his keen wit, exceptional legal skills, and outstanding ethical character. He was admired and respected by all his colleagues in the Criminal Division and the Federal law enforcement community. Lee was a man of great compassion, had a terrific sense of humor, and was a true fan of "Elvis" and Rock and Roll. Most of all, Lee was a real family man and did not hide it. His passing leaves a large hole in all of us which can only be partially filled with lasting memories of a wonderful man, great times spent at work, and the fun and friendship shared while there. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family.

Jill- -

I learned of Lee's untimely passing shortly after leaving the county, and I am still in shock. Lee was, for me, a great leader, mentor and a true friend whose unexpected and untimely loss will likely never be filled. Please accept my deepest sympathy. And rest assured that somewhere in Heaven Lee is playing golf with Elvis- -- and winning!

God bless you. Jill, and my God bless and keep your wonderful husband.

Jill and family,
I met Lee in 1980 when I joined the Public Integrity Section. I quickly appreciated how fine a lawyer he was. I could rely on his honest, sometimes blunt opinion, given sincerely, straightforwardly, always relevant and helpful. Even more I appreciated how good and fine a man Lee was. It was a pleasure to work with someone as mature and confident; someone with a sense of humor and the wit to use it well. In over 20 years we went on over a thousand of his power walks at lunch time. We talked about many things, his love of his family, all good things about Chicago and his cherished colleagues in Public Integrity, and Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Sections. After more than a decade away from Washington those times with Lee are fresh in my memory. I was shocked and saddened to hear from Megan of Lee's passing and I have prayed for him.

Lee committed the heart of his career to fighting public corruption, and he was a mentor to dozens of us in the Public Integrity Section at Justice for decades. He called them the way he saw them, and he was committed to doing the right thing despite the political and media circus that swirls in Washington. Through all of it, Lee kept his smile, his hearty laugh, and his down-to-earth values, and the people who worked with him always knew that the most important thing to Lee was his family.

To Lee's Family:

Please accept condolences and prayers from Lee's SPA friends-classmates and former teachers back in the Chicagoland area. We truly enjoyed our visit and time with Lee at the SPA Reunion in the summer of 2011. Lee looked vibrant and was his personable self. It was a pleasure hearing about Lee's career, interests, and family! The sad news of Lee's passing was a true shock. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers!

Jill,

I worked with Lee at Public Integrity during the Section's first three years in existence; I was the secretary when there were three lawyers on board --Tom Henderson, Lee and Ted Pregg. I fondly recall Lee telling a story about meeting Elvis in a drug store in VA when he stopped to get a cigar after dropping you off after a date. His impersonation was spot on! My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

I will really miss Lee. I was shocked and greatly saddened by his untimely passing. He was a great friend and a great golf partner. He alwsys seemed to be in a good mood with a smile for everyone. It is hard to think of going to the club and not seeing him. My condolences and best wishes to Jill and the family.
