LEONARD BIERMANN Obituary


Leonard J. Biermann  (Age 85)  
Of Merrimac, MA and former longtime resident of Silver Spring and Monrovia, MD, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Highpoint House in Haverhill after a brief illness. Born in St. Louis, MO to the late Joseph and Mary (Otten) Biermann, Leonard was raised in St. Louis and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He attended St. Louis University for both undergraduate and master's degrees in political science. He served honorably in the US Army from 1955-1957. He started his career with the President's Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity during the Kennedy Administration. He went on to become Deputy Director of OFCCP. President Bush awarded him the Presidential Rank Award, the highest award a civilian federal employee can receive. After retiring from the government, he served as NELI's National Director for Affirmative Action Activities where he continued his lifelong mission to see all people have equal opportunity in the work place regardless of race, gender, or religion.He had a great love for gardening. He was an expert rosarian, and a Potomac Rose Society member. He was an avid Cardinal's fan and enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, and caring for his beloved cats. He moved to Merrimac in 2015 and was a member of the St. Luke the Evangelist Parish.He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sandra (Maloney) Biermann, his step son, Mike Davis, and his brother, Wendell. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his son, Ken and daughter-in-law, Laura of North Andover, his daughter, Patti Anastasia of Haverhill, his three granddaughters, Natalie, Emily and Haley Biermann, and step children, Mark Davis and Lisa Sperow.Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, September 23 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St., North Andover, MA 10845. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, 196 Main St., North Andover on Monday, September 24 at 10 a.m.M. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970. For online condolences please visit www.contefuneralhomes.com

Dear family of Mr.Biermann, I was saddened to hear of Mr. Biermann's passing. I also attended many NELI conferences that he chaired. He was smart and approachable, and a true gentleman. May he Rest In Peace, and May you all be comforted.
