Lois Ione Schone, Joy to her friends, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 - just 4 days before celebrating her 95th birthday. Joy was born in North Bend, Washington on March 19, 1919 to Leon E Joyner and Glenis Kress. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Emma and Lorna, as well as her beloved husband Carl Gunder Schone (Colonel USA -retired). A graduate of Washington State and UCLA Berkeley, Joy enjoyed excelling and did so in almost every endeavor. She played trumpet in an all-girls band in college, was a competitive athlete from high school on, and especially enjoyed tennis and ice skating. Joy's careers included elementary school teaching and real estate sales. Her last brokerage was with Long and Foster, where she helped many find good homes and communities. Her sharp mind and innovative approaches were appreciated by many, though few knew she was a member of Mensa and Phi Beta Kappa. Joy is survived by her only child, Carl Leon Schone who resides with his wife Lynne Hood Schone in Virginia Beach and her grandson C. Lance Schone who resides in McLean, Virginia with his wife Heather Bensten Schone and his four children - Boeden, Bensten, Liliana and Isabel. Joy will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery later this year.
