Luis Durand Obituary

DURAND RADM LUIS AUGUSTO DURAND Departed November 25, 2009. Admiral Durand served in the Venezuelan Navy for thirty years. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela and died in Bethesda, MD. The second of 10 children, he put himself through the Naval Academy and ultimately rose to the rank of Rear Admiral. He served in a variety of capacities and stations, including as military attaché to the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington DC from 1980 to 1985. After retirement from active duty, he established and ran a grain drying facility in Encrucijada, Maracay, and maintained a cattle ranch in the llanos. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Consuelo Durand; and by four children, Alinda Iman and Gisela Durand of metropolitan Washington, Irene Durand Bryan of Massachusetts and Luis Augusto Durand of Valencia, Venezuela. He leaves an extensive family throughout Venezuela, whom he valued and was valued by in turn, and eight grandchildren in the United States, Elia, Gisela, and Josephine Bryan, Sina, Reza, and Armand Iman, and Hannah and Shannon McCarty. Requiem in pace.
