MALCOLM LORAN SEARLE  
Malcolm Loran Searle, age 91, of Springfield, Virginia passed away peacefully on December 19, 2020.Malcolm was born on January 24, 1929 in Warwick, Rhode Island, son of the late Frank and Florence (Disley) Searle. He graduated from the N.W. Aldrich High School in 1946, and from Brown University, Class of 1952. After graduation from high school, Malcolm enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea for one year.He began his career in Sykesville, Maryland teaching Social Studies and History. This is where he met his future wife, Mary Elizabeth Robben (m. 1954). He taught Social Studies in public schools in Rhode Island and Delaware for nine years where he inspired the importance of civics. He came to the Washington, DC area in 1963 to serve as the Assistant Executive Secretary of the National Council for the Social Studies. He entered the real estate and the insurance field as agent and manager for Mount Vernon Realty and taught classes in these subjects for Northern Virginia Community College and the City of Alexandria. In 2002, Malcolm and Mary moved to Greenspring Village in Springfield, Virginia where he embraced many volunteer activities, was particularly involved in theatre as one of the founders of the Greenspring Players, and was active for many years as a player and set designer.He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Elizabeth (Robben) Searle. Malcolm is survived by his sons and their wives, David and Lori (Vanderbloemen) Searle and Mark and Paula (White) Searle and his granddaughters, Rachel Morris (Jon), Sarah Pike (Kevin) and Katie Searle and three great-grandsons, Gavin, Ryder, and Hudson Morris.Friends and relatives will be received at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Demaine Funeral Home, Fairfax. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 12 noon, and will be livestreamed through the Demaine Fairfax Facebook page. Interment will be private at Quantico National Cemetery.
