MARVIN JOSEPH "Joe Laney" LANEY

On September 28, 2025, Joe Laney joined his Heavenly Father and took his place in peaceful rest. He was born to John E. and Mary M. Laney in Washington, DC on August 5,1960. He remained a resident in the Washington, DC area until relocating to Columbia, SC with his wife in 2017.

In recent years Joe enjoyed the more relaxed experience that came from Southern Living while still remaining an adventurous traveler. Whether hitting the ski slope or quietly sitting on a tropical beach Joe understood that every blessing in his life was a gift from God. He had a quiet and calm approach while having the ability to draw people together. Joe's kindness was infectious and left those around him wanting more. He poured his life into a cup and allowed those he loved to drink from it at will!

Joe was incredibly disciplined and lived a life of consistent structure. He was a dedicated Licensed Steam Engineer and spent his career of more than four-decades with WTG Properties, Inc. Joe found a family with WTG Properties and especially The Lane Family. He would often say the only thing that separated them was the "Y" in Laney!

Joe was preceded in death by his mother Mary M. Laney, sister, Karen Laney, brother's; John E. Laney II, Paul M. Laney, mother-in-law, Josephine Jones, niece, Maria Brock, nephew, Antonio Laney, Jr., and a host of family members for whom he has now joined.

Joe Laney leaves to cherish his memory his sweetheart of 15 years, partner-in-life, and his loudest cheerleader, his wife, Josephine Laney; son, Jaiden Laney; father, John E. Laney, Sr.; brother, Antonio Laney, Sr. (Verona), brothers-in-law, Cornelius Jones (Wendy), Joe Lee Jones (Mary); sisters-in-law, Everlena Turner (Ezra), Linda Jones Failauga (Maturo), uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and a large family of cousins and amazing friends.

Memorial service will be held Friday, October 10, 11 a.m. at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20904.
