Mary Kretschmer Obituary

Died peacefully on February 25, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Charles G. Kretschmer III. She is survived by her devoted children Kathryn Kretschmer-Weyland and her husband Greg of Silver Spring, Maryland and her son Charles John Kretschmer and his wife Sarah of Frontenac, Missouri.

She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Julia Weyland and her husband Bradley Tinney, Mark Weyland, Charlie and Claire Kretschmer, and her great granddaughter Aurelia June Weyland and her sister Shirley Ann Walsh of Dayton, Ohio. Other survivors include niece Maureen Walsh Zavakos and nephew Michael Walsh, great nieces Rachel and Christine Zavakos, also of Dayton, and sister-in-law Mary Agnes Meyer and niece Maggie Hoffmann of Dubuque, Iowa.

Mary Lou was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 21, 1929. She graduated from Julienne High School and attended St. Mary of the Woods College on an academic scholarship. She took night classes at University of Dayton while working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where she met her husband.

A long-time resident of Bethesda and Rockville, Maryland she was a founding member of the Anchor Mental Health Association of Washington, DC and avidly supported its work.

In 2008, Mary Lou and her husband were named Affiliates of the Daughters of Charity in recognition of their close work with the Daughters at St. Ann's Center in Hyattsville Maryland and throughout the southeast United States.

Mary Lou served as president of the Board of Directors of St. Ann's Center for two terms. She was an active member of the Seton Guild of St. Ann's for fifty years. She was also a dedicated member of the Christ Child Society of Washington, DC.

Friends will be received at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, at Pumphrey Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville, Maryland.

The Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Rockville, Maryland at 10:30 a.m. in the morning on Monday, March 10. Mary Lou will be buried with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Ann's Center, 4901 Eastern Avenue, Hyattsville, Maryland 20782.
