MICHAEL THAGGARD (Age 61)
Of Purcellville, VA was born April 1, 1960 in Miami, FL to the late Mr. Willie Isaiah Thaggard, Sr. and Mrs. Lovenia Thaggard. A devoted husband and servant transitioned from this life on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Reston Hospital. He leaves to mourn his wife Phyllis D. Thaggard; three children, Nathaniel "Nate" Williams, Christopher Thaggard and Mary Thaggard and one granddaughter, Arianna Rose Williams.Michael graduated from Hallendale High School with honors. He attended the University of South Florida where he attained a bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering with honors cum laude and a graduate degree at Virginia Tech with summa cum laude.Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, September 24, 2021 at Lyles Funeral Chapel, 630 South 20th Street, Purcellville, VA, from 3 to 7 p.m. Graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, 831 Dranesville Road, Herndon, VA. Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of Phi Beta Sigma Service at 10:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service 11 a.m. Services may be viewed on youtube under carterhg on Sunday September 26. To the entire Thaggard family,
No words I can convey will do justice to Michael as the special person who he was, and the incredible loss to your family. I had the honor and privilege of working with Michael and considering him a friend. What I remember best was Michael's smile (as evidence in the pictures shared), his pride and love of his children, his joy in taking a cruise with his wife and spending time together, and his dedication and professionalism. Since leaving FEMA and the federal government, I always enjoyed the chance to talk with Michael and get updates on all facets of his life. He is and will be missed greatly -- an incredible person with a beautiful soul. All my prayers for you all.
