MILTON H. MATHIS Colonel, US Army (Retired)
Colonel (Ret.) Milton Mathis, 87, of Camp Springs, MD, passed away suddenly from heart failure on January 24, 2022. He is survived by his loving daughter, Nicole Mathis, Esq., and son, Milton K. Mathis; brother, CMSgt (USAF-Ret.) Frank Mathis, Jr.. He was predeceased by his dear wife of 42 years Gloria Gardner Mathis; brother, LTC (USA-Ret.) Douglas Mathis (Louphelia); sisters, Magalene Mathis and Martha Young; sister-in-law, Dolores Mathis.Milton's distinguished military career spanned 31 years, including 2d (Warrior) Brigade Commander and two combat tours in Vietnam, earning numerous awards and accolades, including the Bronze Star and Air Medal. After military retirement, he had a second career at the CIA for 21 years, where he was Program Director of recruitment with a focus on Diversified Cover Programs and Special Operations.Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 26 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Marshall-March Funeral Home located at 4308 Suitland Rd., Suitland, MD 20746. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Interment with full military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.

As a young 1st Lt assigned to ¹/13 Infantry under then Lt Col Milton Mathis, I served as S-2 on his Battalion staff and later as HQ Company Commander. He was a fine man ànd I was proud to serve under him. I am sorry to hear of his passing. Regards to his family.
