Norman Gross Clyne Jr.

January 22, 1931—February 16, 2023

Norman G. Clyne Jr, age 92, residing in Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully on February 16, 2023. Norm was born on January 22, 1931, in Picayune, Mississippi, to the late Le Sheppard and Norman G. Clyne, Sr. Graduating from The Citadel in 1952, Norm was commissioned into the United States Army on June 6, 1952. Norm would later earn his MBA from Shippensburg University. During his 26-year career with the US Army, Norm became a highly decorated Vietnam War Veteran, and became an integral part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff working for the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency (ACDA) on nuclear negotiations with the Russian Government. Reaching the rank of Colonel, Norm retired from the Army on August 31, 1978. After a few months of retirement, he took on his second career, working with the US Department of State for another 15 years, as the Executive Director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. Norm finally retired again on January 3, 1994. He then moved with his wife to South Carolina to the "fishing shack".

Norm married his wife Alice Virginia Keyser, on August 7,1952, having recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They had two children together, Pat and Sydney. When not working or spending time with his family, he was fishing, watching the evening news, or reading the newspapers cover to cover.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Norm's greatest joy was being with his family. He dedicated his life to the well-being and development of his two children. His unconditional love and support provided a sturdy foundation upon which his children would grow and thrive. He instilled in them the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family.

Norm is survived by his wife Alice; his two children Pat Clyne (Joyce) and Sydney Ferzacca; five grandchildren, Stephen Clyne (Reyna), Daniel Clyne (Caitlyn), Jeffrey Clyne (Nicole), Samantha Ferzacca, Jacquelin Ferzacca; and four great grandchildren Oliver, Matthew, Titus, and Noella. They will carry his legacy forward with gratitude and love. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Leona Chubb and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. Norm was predeceased by his loving sister Patricia Smith of Clinton, Mississippi. Everyone will always remember Norm's fun-loving nature, his passion for life and how he loved his family, country, and God. May he now find eternal peace and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
