Oliver Easterwood Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed peacefully in his sleep on October 21, 2024.

Oliver was born in 1940 in Washington, DC. Upon graduating from college, he served in the US Army prior to attending law school at the University of Maryland. Oliver had a long and distinguished career as a respected US Government attorney.

A sports enthusiast, his personal joys
included playing tennis and golf and
giving back to the community through youth sports and scouting. He was also a lifelong fan, cheering on his children as well as local professional teams.

Oliver was an active member of the
Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church from its founding, where he generously
contributed to the community's spiritual life and activities. He had a deep appreciation of music and sang for many years with the Springfield Chorale and church choir. He was always the life of the party and was cherished by all whose lives he touched.

Oliver leaves behind his loving family –
devoted wife of 58 years Lynn; son Scott, daughter Valerie; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, VA.

I worked for over 25 years at GAO with Oliver. He´s one of the few people I ever met that you just smile when you think of him. He was always in a good mood and never complaining about or criticizing anyone or anything. You just always looked forward to seeing him, and I was truly upset to learn of his passing. He will be missed.

Going to really miss you golf partner. We had so many great times together.
You were one of a kind. Who would have thought ordinary driving could be a competitive sport? And damnit who is going to do the dishes now?

Lynn, Scott, Valerie,
Mike and I cried and then smiled at the memories of those early days at Accotink with young children. So many memories - especially the annual oldies sing-along on your deck. We went to see " The Big Chill" together! Mike remembers late night meetings and Family Retreats with Oliver´s volleyball games at Prince William Park. It was always fun with Oliver and all these memories will always enrich our lives. Sending much, much love to you!

I'm very sorry to hear of Oliver's passing. Although we were not in the same section, we both worked in the Office of General Counsel at GAO during the same period. I remember him, to use an old-fashioned term, as a gentleman, one who was unfailingly good-humored, always available to help, and determined to do the right thing. Sincere condolences to his family.
