Actually, I was a classmate & his unofficial trainer - my condolences - - - well i found out only by chance, when i met a school mate ( probably 4 years later in 2009?) , , , , it was a bit sad to hear that he went that far for this to happen; in hindsight i have to admit that i was the one who influenced him the most - but unwillingly - i did visit him in kennesaw in 1989, but i noticed that a lot of the biography had sections missing,, ,, ,, maybe his closest friened/aquaINTANCE could get back to me; i would like to discuss something with her if possible... Till then

My sister, Phyllis (Johnson)Murphy and I want you to know how saddened we were to learn of Helge's death. Phyllis wants you to know that if you are in Colorado she would love to have you stay with her in Buffalo Creek. I also have a new log house a few hundred yards up the mountain from Phyllis' that you are welcome to use.

While in service of his country during a short-term assignment in Afghanistan, Helge Boes, died in a training accident. A graduate of Georgia State and Harvard Law School, he selflessly left behind a promising position as a lawyer in a top international law firm for a career in public service and in defense of his country. He was a great man, a good and trusted friend, and well-liked and universally respected for his fair play, honest nature, dependable character, and athletic prowess by all who knew him -- both teammates and opponents alike. A passionate footballer, both his frustrations and sense of humor would manifest themselves on the pitch by his curious habit of venting his frustrations with loud and often incomprehensible outbursts in German, causing alternate reactions of laughs and consternation from those around him on the field. He was a superb athlete, with a 'deft left', who was equally adept as a goal-keeper and on the the left side of the pitch, where he almost invariably ended up in order to use that sweet south paw of his to either dribble, shoot, or serve up one of his trademark 'pinpoint' left crosses. He was most proud of his 3 USASA Co-Ed National Championships titles, in particular his crucial role on the 2000 squad, where he earned the Championship Match MVP in the Final as a goalkeeper, keeping a clean sheet through 90 minutes of regulation, double overtime, and in stopping the first 3 PKs to secure victory for his beloved Conquistadores. He died as he lived and played his soccer: in action, selflessly, and tirelessly giving his all for his teammates and nation -- defending his country, as he defended his team's goal.
He leaves behind his wife Cindy, parents Roderich and Monika Boes, and older brother Henrik, all of whom may be familiar to you as frequent sideline fans at his matches, where they regularly and proudly cheered him and the team on. In addition, he leaves behind an long roster of a family of soccer friends called Conquistadores -- past, present, and future; who love him and miss him dearly. We all mourn the loss of this great man, but for those who knew him personally, he stands as an shining example for all of us to emulate as a friend and person, teammate and competitor, athlete and soccer player, in the goal or on the field, both on the pitch and in life.
Helge, we will never forget you and we will always miss you. May you rest in peace, with God and in Heaven.
