CARROLL Dr. PATRICK A. CARROLL On October 1, 2014, our "stout-hearted man from County Mayo', Dr. Patrick A. Carroll passed peacefully. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, surgeon, healer and avid sportsmen. He is survived by his wife since 1994, Sharon McVicker Carroll; and his sons, Brian T. Carroll (wife, Ellen Sullivan Carroll and children, Brendan, Madison, Moira and Ian), Richard M. Carroll (wife, Jan Riley Carroll and children, Patrick and Mary) and John F. Carroll (wife, Grace Burke Carroll and children, Jack, Maeve and Burke) and daughter, Ann M. Carroll. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen McManus Carroll, son, Patrick, brother, John Francis Carroll and sister, Martina Carroll. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Joseph Carroll and his sisters, Mary O'Grady-Walshe and Sister Mairead Carroll, MMM living in Dublin. Dr. Carroll was a renowned Gaelic football player in Ireland and graduated with a medical degree from University College Galway (UCG) before coming to the United States in 1954. Arriving in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he continued medical training in New York before coming to Georgetown University to complete his surgical training. In 1955, he joined the U.S. Navy as a reservist and was called to active service in 1957. When his military service was completed, he returned to Northern Virginia and founded medical practices in Seven Corners and Vienna, Virginia, now known as Dominion Urology. Dr. Carroll was the Chairman of Urology at Fairfax Hospital for many years. Pat had great passion for medicine, his family and horse racing. His calling was medicine and as recently as this summer, he expressed that nothing could possibly have given him more joy. He loved being a father but exalted in his role as a grandfather. There can be little doubt that the times he shared with his grandchildren were the happiest hours of his life. He had a love of nature, his farm and his horses, particularly the ones that ran fast. Pat had a deep appreciation of humor and true to his Irish heritage, he could tell tall tales with the best. He was a wonderful friend who was rewarded with wonderful friends throughout his lifetime. He loved nothing more than a gathering of friends and family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, Middleburg, Virginia. Interment will be held immediately following the service at Emmanuel Cemetery, Middleburg, Virginia. Donations may be made to the Capital Caring Hospice Services, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, Middleburg, Virginia.
