PORTER DOBBINS Obituary


Porter Fae Dobbins, Jr.  
September 30, 1925 - December 20, 2021  Porter Dobbins, 96, passed peacefully into the arms of God surrounded by his family. He was born in Rosedale, West Virginia on September 30, 1925, the son of Porter and Osa Dobbins. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and son. Porter grew up in West Virginia and went to Marshall College in Huntington, WV, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. He served for three years in the US Army, stationed in Panama. He attended Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, GA, and earned a Master's of Science Degree in Business. He lived in Atlanta, GA and Northern VA where he raised his family and had a 32-year career with Lockheed Aircraft. He held many positions, the last being Director of Marketing in the Washington, DC office. He retired at age 57 and purchased a home in Oakton, VA on 9 acres. Among many ventures, he grew a small vineyard and made his own wine. He and his wife, Dottie, were avid golfers and members of River Bend Country Club. They belonged to Vale United Methodist Church and were active members with many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Edwin Dobbins; and two sisters, Geraldine Freeman and Bernadine Dobbins. Surviving in addition to his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Dottie) Dobbins; are his children: Hal Dobbins, Katie Taylor [Danny] and Doug Dobbins [Lorie]; his grandchildren: Kelsey Meunier (Trent), Elyse McNeill (Michael), Bryan Taylor, Christopher Doheny, Ashley Dobbins and Taylor Dobbins; and his great grandchildren: Parker and Tenley Meunier. Due to Covid restrictions, a private memorial service will be held and he will be buried in the cemetery at Vale UMC.
