Ray Pace Obituary



PACE LT. COL. RAY D. PACE USA (Ret.) Died of complications due to Parkinson''s disease on April 13, 2010, at the age of 79. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary S. Pace; one son, Ray D. Pace, Jr. and his wife, Wilma; and one granddaughter, Ashley M. Pace. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Baxter, of Pensacola, Florida, and her three sons, Chris, Rick and Jerry. Lt. Col. Pace graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 1954. He was commissioned and spent 24 years as an officer in the US Army, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. Ray was awarded the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with vertical device and two Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Road, at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church hall. Inurnment with Full Military Honors will be held on Thursday, July 22, at 3 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice, 1604 Spring Hill Road, Suite 450, Vienna, VA, 22182.
