Richard Bruce DePorter

Richard B. DePorter, 86, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on May 7, 2025, at Sacred Heart Nursing Home in Hyattsville, Maryland. Richard was born on July 24, 1938 in Moline, Illinois, and his family relocated to Washington, DC, in 1940, where he attended St. Aloysius and St. Francis de Sales schools. He dedicated over two decades to working at St. Francis de Sales School, University Park Elementary School, and the Shoreham Hotel. An avid painter, Richard also enjoyed bingo, music, crafts, and traveling, with his artwork earning awards at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair. He is survived by his brother, Michael (Frances) DePorter, and sisters Mary (Richard) LaMontagne and Helen DePorter Buonora (Bob). He was preceded in death by his sister Eileen Rohlfing (Ed) and brothers Reverend Arnold DePorter and Brother Phillip DePorter, FSC, as well as his parents, Walter and Amy, and his dearest friend, David Edmonds. Richard cherished his many nieces and nephews, who fondly remember his singing and gentle nature. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at Our Lady of Grace Church on Norbeck Road on May 15, 2025, at 11 a.m., with a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
