Richard Hammett Obituary

RICHARD S. HAMMETT
Richard S. Hammett began a new journey on November 19, 2010. His home was New York City but being the child of a Theater manager, he began his life on the road in Boston, Massachusetts, living out of dresser drawers. As a child in New York he had numerous jobs at the Lyceum Theater, the oldest continuously operating legitimate theater on Broadway. After serving in World War II he became an agent with William Morris Agency in New York City. He loved to tell stories about Judy Garland, Don Ameche, Danny Kay, June Allyson, Vivian Lee and Laurence Olivier. He had a true love of the Theater. In the 1950's he relocated to Arlington, Virginia for a new chapter of his life. He went into Custom home and commercial building as well as sales. He brought the Darby Real Estate Company from Connecticut to Virginia; he also worked for Atlas and Town and Country and began Flag Reality and Rugby Development in the 1980's. He also served on the Democratic National Committee in Arlington and for those that know him in his later years he repented and became a staunch conservative. He remained in Northern Virginia but traveled all over the world. He had a passion for politics and discussing economic and world affairs. He will be remembered for his laughter, humor, and twinkle in his eye. He is survived by wonderful family and friends. He truly loved life and said in the last month "I am having too much fun to leave." Relatives and friends are invited to Richard's Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Monday, November 22, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or ZERO-The Project to End Prostate Cancer, 10 G Street NE, Suite 601, Washington D.C., 20002. Please view and sign the family's guestbook online at www.moneyandking.com
