Richard Hindin Obituary

Native Washingtonian Rick Hindin passed away on March 23, 2025, at the age of 82. A devoted son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend, Rick always put his family and dear friends first. His other passion was business, which he pursued with purpose, creativity, iintelligence, and tenacity. Over the years, Rick inspired many with his "all things are possible" mentality, and he will be greatly missed.

Rick co-founded Britches of Georgetowne with David Pensky in 1967, opening with a sign proclaiming "Fine Clothiers Since 1967" above the door. Rick was also a partner in Adworks with its founder, Mark Greenspun, and later in Chicken Out Rotisserie with his son, Lee. During the last decade, he partnered in Britches Bespoke with his longtime friend and former Britches Executive, Mark Rykken. Rick began his career in advertising at Lewis & Dubrow Advertising, sweeping the floors at 17 and learning the trade from Jack and Larry, who would become his trusted lifelong mentors and dear friends.

Born in Washington, DC, in 1942, he attended Coolidge High School and George Washington University. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Arnold and Carol, to whom he was deeply devoted. He is survived by his son, Lee; his grandchildren, Bryan and Sydney; nieces, Natalie (Alan) and Jodi (Matt); nephews, David (Kate) and Stuart; great-nieces and nephews, Leah (Stephen), Oliver (Elle), Sarah (Moy), Alex, Annie (Brett), and Gracie; his "adopted" niece, Jamie; and his former spouses, Karen (Paul), Mary Ellen, and Christine.

Private Service already held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rise & Shine Bakery in Annapolis, a charitable organization that was close to Rick's heart.

I´m am very saddened with the news of Rick´s passing. My prayers go out to Lee and his family. I started working at Britches in July of 1974 and was there for 21 years. It was the best of times and a great culture to have worked in. Everyone who worked at Britches were totally committed to making Britches one of the Best retail companies in Washington and other cities throughout America. There was an energy and enthusiasm in everything we did. Britches had the Best display windows, the Best products which were tasteful classic style and a great team of buyers, managers and office and warehouse personnel. Rick and David were like older brothers to me and gave me so much opportunity within the company. Rick was a mentor to so many people and was an advertising genius. Rick always approached you with a positive and motivating attitude and treated you with respect. He had a profound impact on my life as a retailer and as a man. He will be missed by so many people. Godspeed Rick.

Uncle Rick always knew how to put a smile on my face. The last time I saw him was at our wedding in 2022 and he was so happy and proud. I´ll always look back at our memories and smile.

I knew Rick through the crazy world of DC Advertising and later as we became friends by way of Mark Nash. Rick was a consumate mensch. A great friend with an expansive intellect.
I am honored to have known Rick professionally and personally. Of blessed memory. Fare thee well.

Lee, please call me if you can!
I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your Dad. My "crazy" Uncle Rick. He always put a smile on my face and I cherished his stories about my Dad, Britches and the good ole days. He will be fondly remembered and missed beyond words. I only wish I could have one more conversation with him:( He was larger than life, iconic and unforgettable.
Sending huge condolences to you as I know you have lost your best friend, mentor and father. He was the GOAT and we loved him so much!

I am sending my condolences to Lee and the rest of the family on the loss of Rick. I´ve known him for 50 years.
Back then my husband and i were involved with him and all the Britches group for a long time.
I have fond memories of Rick. He was a very good friend to my husband, Dan. We go way way back and we were very young when we first met.
We will all miss Rick and he did add to this world.
I also fondly remember his mother who was so precious and his brother Arnie.
We used to attend all their religious celebrations as well. Those were the good old days! His memory lives on. God bless everybody.
