RICHARD K.C. HSIEH  
Of Towson, MD passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2011. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Rebecca Hsieh; son, Timothy Hsieh; daughter, Karen Lu; daughter-in-law, Gillian Hsieh; son-in-law, Charles Lu; grandchildren, Ned, Abby, David, Jonathan and Kate; brother, Thomas Hsieh; sister, Carol Lee and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.Richard was born June 7, 1932 in Tianjin, China and came to the U.S. in 1953 to attend college. He followed in his father's footsteps and attended the Johns Hopkins University where he earned a Bachelors degree, two Masters degrees, and a Ph.D. in public health. Baltimore became his hometown for 58 years. He served for many years as Chief of Health Services Research for the U.S. Public Health Service. He moved on to become the Director of International Programs for the National Library of Medicine. After he retired in 1996, Richard focused on his hobby, genealogy. He traveled throughout the world to document his family's history to about 600 A.D. Richard was a man of honesty and integrity who instilled in his children and grandchildren the value of education. He will be most remembered for his steadfast dedication and love for his family. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Johns Hopkins Club in Baltimore, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering, in memory of Richard K.C. Hsieh, 3400 N. Charles Street, Wyman 400, Baltimore, MD 21218.
