MOCK RICHARD W. MOCK (Age 77) Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.) On June 4, 2008 of Ashburn, VA at his winter home in Punta Gorda, FL. Son of the late William and Cora Mock of Johnstown, PA. Preceded in death by sisters, Lois Jane and Shirley of Johnstown, PA. Richard graduated from Richland Twp High School, Geistown, PA, in 1948. He enlisted in the Army in 1951 and after completing basic training at Ft. Knox, KY, he was assigned to the Army Security Agency at Ft. Devens, MA. While serving an assignment in Tokyo, Japan he received a direct commission to Lieutenant in 1957. From Ft. Bragg, NC. He was assigned to Sinop, Turkey in 1960. In 1961 from Arlington, VA, he was assigned to the U.S. European Command, Weisbaden, Germany. In 1968, he completed the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS. In 1969, he was assigned to Saigon and the Mekong Delta in Can Tho, Viet Nam. After a tour at the Pentagon in 1970, he was selected for the U.S. Army College Degree Completion program and received a BA in History and a minor in Business Administration with honors from Mt. St. Mary's University, Emmetsburg, MD. His next assignment was Ft. Hood, TX as commander of the 303rd ASA Battalion. During his next assignment at the Pentagon, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel and selected on the U.S. Army Command List and assigned as Commander to Conus MIGroup, Ft. Meade, MD. Colonel Mock retired on January 1, 1982 after 30 years of service. He was awarded the Legion of Merit on two occasions, The Bronze Star twice, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Korean Service and Viet Nam Service awards. Richard was a lifetime member of the Grand Masonic Lodge of Japan, the Grand Masonic Lodge of VA MOAA and the American Legion Post #288. In 1968 the family moved to Sterling, VA and opened a family business in 1971. After his military retirement Mr. Mock served as President of Melodee Music with stores in Sterling and Leesburg. Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn; sons, Richard Jr., Roger and Robert; daughter, Kathy; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held at the Main Chapel, Ft. Myer, VA on Friday, August 29 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
