My father had a gift. Whether it was his warm grin, his sparkling blue eyes, or his sunny nature, he could light up a room with his presence. He was a cherished husband, father, uncle, and friend to many, but he was a hero to me. I remember as a little girl my dad making me feel like I was the most special person in the room. Although I was one of three daughters, I always thought I was daddy’s special little girl. As I grew up and shed some of my egocentricity, I saw that my dad made everyone in the room feel like they were the most special person in the room—whether it be family, friend, or neighbor. Dad saw the goodness of God in others and truly enjoyed people for who they were.

As a father, he directed us down the right path without telling us what choices to make. He led us by example through his integrity, honesty, and love. Dad possessed extraordinary empathy, kindness, humor, and humility. He appreciated the shortness and sweetness of life. He was truly happy with what he had and enjoyed every minute of his life. He understood that the key to happiness was family, friends, and faith. I saw how my father lived his life and I am a better person for it. Although my heart is broken over losing him, I know I am the luckiest girl in the world to have had him as my father, my protector, and my friend. I love him with all of my heart and will miss him terribly.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of 'Uncle Rick'...an all-around great man in both his professional and, more importantly, his family life. We will fondly remember his humor and his interest in our lives. Rick was the 'cool' uncle who always wanted to catch up between visits and genuinely cared about us. Our thoughts are with the entire family. May he rest in peace.
