RICHARD H. SNYDER

On January 4, 2024, we lost Richard H. Snyder

A wonderful husband, cherished dad, loyal friend, respected businessman, avid sailor, and diehard fan of everything motorized, except electric cars!

Richard (aka Duke or Dick) was born in Philadelphia on August 17, 1933. A varsity football team member, he proudly graduated from Upper Darby High School, always adding: "an undefeated football team!".

A combination of patriotism and resourcefulness led him to pursue the GI Bill, joining the US Army for a two year stint at the White Sands Testing Grounds. He may have mentioned he was there with Oppenheimer!

Duke entered Pennsylvania Military College (Widener University). This was a time of scholarship, camaraderie, and athletic prowess through football and wrestling. A testament to his character; friendships forged there, remain to this day.

Ford Motor Co. was next (he bled blue!). After 10 incredible years, building lifelong friendships and many fun and notorious escapades, Richard stepped into leadership at Jerry's Lincoln Mercury Jeep in Manassas, Virginia.

Dick retired at the age of 72. Deeply respected by his peers, employees and customers he finished his professional career with a noted reputation for integrity, inspiring work ethic, and dedication. The high esteem with which he was held earned him the Chairmanship of WANADA (Washington Area New Auto Dealers), a high point of his professional career.

Always the life of the party, Richard never missed a chance to dance with his beautiful wife of 54 years, Barbara. A passionate sailor, he shared his love of the sea with his daughters Courtney (Mirko) and Stephanie whom he also ushered into skiing and the value of being active and healthy. He relished talking cars, never missing a NASCAR race. An unwavering fan of the Redskins (no pc here!), he rarely missed a game.

Time spent with his daughters, Stephanie and Courtney, was treasured. They were truly the light of his life. He was blessed with three terrific grandsons: Wolfgang, Soren, and Vincent. His wife Barbara was his rock, loyal companion and best friend. She was devoted to him until his last breath.

A celebration of his life will be held at Dolphin Bar & Grill (a favorite spot) in Stuart, FL, on Sunday, February 4, 2024, 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Can't remember how long ago we saw you guys last, but we do remember the good times we had, great memories of the time we spent together. So sorry about your loss. Hope everyone is handling the sadness as best you can. Diane, Amber and I are doing well, albeit I am just a year behind Dick but feeling good, so far. Would love to make it to Stuart Fl. but its a bit of a hike from Mobile Al. However, if the weather is nice and I feel the urge for a nice drive I may come down. be well, be safe and God Bless. Joe.
