RITA DEVINE Obituary
DEVINE RITA DEVINE From Brooklyn, NY, Rita Devine, the daughter of James "Jimmy" and Loretta "Chic" Kiernan, died peacefully at the age of 98 on June 25, 2013 at Sunrise of Fair Oaks, VA. Her father was an alderman of New York City during prohibition. We loved our Mother very much and are a very close family, even across the miles. She signed all cards with: "I love you 80 million, Forever and 3 days!" Rita Devine was #1 Real Estate sales person in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area for many years and retired at 79 in 1994. She had a great memory. She had four children. John, her eldest son, named Geoffrey Giraffe (Toys"R"Us) and Brian her second son is Chairman of Petco; both live in San Diego area, CA. Rita Marie, her only daughter, third child, lives with her husband Ben (Green Tree Ministries) in Rixeyville, VA. Terry, her youngest son, lived with our Mom for over 10 years in her home in Chevy Chase MD. Until the end, her memory was intact; her great sense of humor kept reminding us of her American Irish upbringing! Pre-deceased by her parents and beloved sister Muriel (George) Colligan, she is survived by her dear brother James F. (Katherine) Kiernan family in Pompano Bay FL. Rita was the beloved wife of the late William John "Jack" Devine and the late Walter C. Oehrke; mother of W. John Devine Jr. (Jan Gallagher), Brian Kiernan (Silvija K.) Devine, Rita Marie Devine (Benjamin) Grace, and Terence Michael Devine; grandmother of Brian K. Devine Jr. (Suzanne Hasz) William J. "Jack" (Jenn) Devine III; Angela (Aaron) White; A. Tyler Devine (Matthew) Morocco; Brooke K. Devine; Gregory Grace (Mairi Matrov); (Kevin Fitzpatrick Grace, who died in 1973); Mario (Janet) Grace; Stefano Grace; Julianna S. Devine; Liam J. Devine; great-grandmother of Brian Jr.'s: Nathan Alexander, Brian K. "Ian" Devine III, Madeline F. Devine; Jack's family: Walker J. Devine, Miles J. Devine; Angela's: Benjamin White, Aaron White Jr., Isaac White; Tyler's: Dominic Morocco; Gregory's: Laura Grace, Nora Grace; Mario's: Emily Grace, Ethan Grace; Stefano's: Massimo Grace. Rita also is survived by Devine family patriarch: Father Richard "Dick" Devine; daughter's Godfather George (Jane) Devine; daughter's Godmother Joan Meyers; S. Ann Devine Burns and family; Gert (Kristi) Tiivas and family in Estonia; and all the Devine and Kiernan cousins in America and Ireland. A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac MD on Thursday, July 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, July 26 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mercy on Friday, July 26 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Potomac, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital Caring Halquist Hospice, 4715 15th Street North, Arlington VA (703-525-7070) and plant a tree or forest in her name via: The Jewish National Fund for Trees in Israel www.jnf.org/trees

In loving memory of my Mother, Rita Devine who truly was a Devine Rita Devine! Mom will be missed and loved forever and 3 days, as she always signed! All who knew her loved her. We are thankful for Sunrise of Fair Oaks, a warm, loving, caring, wonderful home for people from all walks of life and for Right at Home who provided the best par excellence CNAs for our Mother with true loving care. Special thanks to Denise who helped my Mom find care, Trena who managed schedules, finding loving caregivers, Florence, Mary, Lynn, Yanet, Exie, Marion and many others who truly showed love while assisting my mother in her last months! Sunrise of Fair Oaks staff are heroes to rescue my Mom from a horrible place! Thank you Valerie, Shelley, Jewel who is a Jewel and Angel who is an Angel (medtechs), Michelle, Eleanor, Kim, Chiqi, Nahla with Betty, More than can be mentioned here! Pearlie @ ABP made my Mom's life so pleasant as activities director and Halquist Memorial Hospice have volunteers like Angels! Thank you Dr. Scheer for saving our Mom's life and caring with Capital Caring! Special thanks to her great team: Grace, Deb, Mike, Mini, Dr. Shariff, Gloria & all: Mom loved you! She never experienced pain and trusted her life into your care! Thank you Merrifield Capital Caring extraordinaire! Miss you all. With Love and thanks on behalf of Rita Devine and family, Rita Marie Grace, her namesake! Thank you Jamie & William at Gawlers and Mindy, Moira, Michele, Joann at Felinton's. You are all appreciated! For those not mentioned, I apologize. AS we grieve the loss of our Mom at age 98, we give thanks and bring to mind all those who have influenced her life. Her parents & beloved sister Muriel have gone on as most of her close friends (recently Estelle). Her loving brother James and wife Catherine Kiernan live on in our memories with call and photos they sent before Mom's 98th birthday. Enjoy her photos and remember her with grace and love: Mom!
