RITA SUE KENNEDY "Susci" (Age 72)

Rita Sue (Adams) Kennedy, (Susci) was born in Oklahoma City on April 11, 1950 and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 31, 2022 at her home in Aldie, Virginia after her seven-year battle with colon cancer. She was the daughter of Howard and Edith Adams of Del City, Oklahoma.

Susci graduated from Del City High School in Oklahoma in 1968. She then attended both Central State University in Oklahoma and then the University of Oklahoma while working part time. She left school to be married on January 31, 1970 and had two children. She and her husband, Rick Kennedy, met when they were juniors in Del City high school in 1966. Upon her husband's graduation from OU in 1972, they immediately entered the Air Force. Later in life, Susci went back to school and graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Interior Design in 1987, fulfilling a life-long dream.

Susci has always been creative and welcomed new things in her life. She travelled extensively taking advantage of being the wife of a military officer. With her family she moved to several different places including Virginia, Oklahoma, Spain, Texas, New York, Arizona, and Florida, before ending careers in the Pentagon, Washington, DC. She held a variety of different jobs as the family moved around, but in 1991 she became a federal civil service employee for the Air Force in the Pentagon facilities management division and served for 27 years finally retiring as a GS 14. She won numerous civilian awards while serving in the Pentagon. In 1992, she was selected as the Outstanding Civilian of the Year in the National Capital Region Support Group for the Pentagon. For the period September 11, 2001, to January 31, 2002, she was awarded a medal from the Department of the Air Force, Exemplary Civilian Service Award for her work after the 911 tragedy at the Pentagon. She was a member in good standing with the International Interior Design Association IIDA as well. Susci and Rick retired and settled in northern Virginia being close to the two adult sons and their families.

Susci is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rick Kennedy (Colonel Ret USAF), her son Christopher Kennedy and his wife Aimee of Chantilly, Virginia; her younger son Adam Kennedy and his wife Andrea also of Chantilly Virginia; her sister Dr. Nita McNeil of Mustang, Oklahoma and four grandchildren, Brienne, Aidan, Cody and Ceci.

"Life is measured by the footprints one leaves behind. Hers are imprinted all over my heart and the hearts of many others."

Susci was a lovely lady and a great mentor. She was a steady voice at all times. Her Air Force family will miss her presence and smile. Our thoughts are with Rick and her family at this time.
