COMSTOCK Robert F. Comstock (Age 85) Of Chevy Chase, Maryland peacefully passed away on March 17, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Jean Joyce Comstock and a loving and devoted father to his five children and their families. He is survived by: James and Kathleen Joyce, Michael and Deborah Joyce, Kelly and Larry Devine, Jennifer Jean Comstock, Margaret and Alex Watkins; he was a beloved brother to his six siblings and their families and is survived by his sister Barbara K. Comstock Nalepka; grandfather to Michael Joyce, Jr., Carl Joyce, Brian Joyce (Magalys), Mary Jean Joyce (Kyle), Kevin Joyce, Caitlin Joyce, Mary Alice Perry, James Joyce, Patrick Joyce, Robert Watkins, James Watkins and William Watkins; and great-grandfather to three. Robert "Bob" was born on June 4, 1936, in the city of Lincoln, Illinois to Mary and William Bryan Comstock. Bob was the second youngest of seven children. After he graduated from Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, he accepted a scholarship to attend The Catholic University of America where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and track. After graduation, Bob served an initial tour of duty with the Air Force as an Air Targets Officer in Japan. He returned to Catholic University to begin law school only to be recalled by the Air Force to serve as an F-104 Starfighter pilot during the Berlin Crisis. After law school, Bob enjoyed a long and distinguished career in banking and law. He was a partner in the law firm of Comstock & Reilly, L.L.P. in Washington, DC. He was an organizer and Chairman of the Board of First Continental Bank of Maryland from 1983-1986 and served as Director and Chairman of the Board of the Metropolitan Federal Savings and Loan Association from 1986-1987 and served in the same position at Baltimore Bancorp and Bank of Baltimore from 1988-1991. He had a long relationship with the National Capital Bank of Washington where he served on the board for 15 years and was the Chair of its Executive Committee numerous times. He served as their Chairman and CEO from 2013-2016. Bob served as Head Track and Cross-Country Coach at Catholic University before deciding to volunteer his time to support the Catholic Youth Organization by becoming the founding Meet Director for the National Invitational Indoor Track Meet from 1968-1976. Top national and international athletes competed in this event which was seen on ABC's Wide World of Sports. Bob also led the United States Track and Field Team to international competitions and directed the 1976 USA-USSR Track and Field Dual Meet. Bob's contributions to the local community were many and varied, especially his dedication to the Roman Catholic Church for which Bob was named a Knight of Saint Gregory the Great in 2019. In addition, Bob served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and The Catholic University of America, faithfully promoting the mission of both institutions. Visitation will be held in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on April 9, 2022 at 10 a.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Robert F.
