Bob,
I am completely shocked and deeply saddened. I just found out last night after several attempts of contacting you over the past month. Because you had been always a faithful friend, it was strange to me when you suddenly stopped playing Words with Friends with me and did not reply to my texts and messages. I am sorry I was too busy at work and traveling overseas I didn't even think something could ever possibly happen. I sent out an email to you last night still trying to joke around ”Bob, are you in outer space?” Now you are in heaven, I didn't know what to think. I thought I would always see you sometimes walking your dog in the neighborhood, hear your laughter, or chat over the phone. I know I can always count on your wisdom and advice. You are such a fine man; a kind, genuine, humble man devoted to your family and your dogs, yet had a dream of traveling around the world. I am so sorry I was not there to say last Good Bye to you. Bob, you will always be my dear friend, mentor, and neighbor. You will be greatly missed! May you rest peacefully in Heaven!

My heartfelt sympathy to the family and dear friends. I was very saddened to learn of Bob's passing. I learned just yesterday. Bob and I resided in the same neighborhood and I started to get a bad feeling after weeks had passed and I had not seen or heard from Bob. From my interactions with Bob and his beloved dog Mocha, Bob was always friendly, warm spirited, sincere, and had caring heart. I will truly miss my dear friend and neighbor Bob. I don't encounter many geniune souls like that of Bobs. I thank you Bob for your thoughtfulness.

To one of the best teachers in my life. Working with you and watching your interactions with co-workers and consultants alike were every day lessons in not only how to be a great boss, but a diligent, generous co-worker and an understanding friend. Here's a picture that I should've shown you long before – you, your brother and sister-in-law and my mom, standing in front of the Redskins Hall of Fame wall after we watched one of their games together at Fedex. My parents and husband only met you briefly, but just from your short interactions and everything that I told them about you, they knew you were a wonderful person. I'll miss you and all our conversations – about everything from accounting to traveling the world to the Redskins – but I know you're at peace now with Mocha. Farewell, Bob.

Dad,

You are a kind, loving and caring father to me, loyal and devoted husband and best friend to my mom and brother and friend to many. I grateful to have known and been raised by you.

You were an avid animal lover. I remember that day when we were driving, and you stopped suddenly in the middle of the road. You got out of the car to move a turtle out of the middle of the road. You were so worried that the turtle couldn't cross the road fast enough and could hit by a car. You were always so concerned for all beings, big and small, and always on the lookout to save someone from harm's way.

I loved to see you happy. And for you, that was as simple as sitting across the dinner table from us or standing in a room with family and friends. I'll never forget the look on your face. You just look around the room and your whole face lights up and glows with the joy of knowing that you're spending time with your family and friends.

Dad, you taught me, through your example how to love fully, unconditionally, with no expectations.

Love,
Chanel

I AM SHOCKED AND SADDENED AT THE LOSS OF A DEAR FRIEND WHO WAS LIKE A BROTHER TO ME. WE HAD LOST TOUCH FOR A LONG TIME AND HAD ONLY RECENTLY RECONNECTED. I THOUGHT THAT WE WOULD HAVE MORE TIME THAN THIS, BUT GOD NEEDED HIM HOME WITH HIM.

I hadn't seen Bob for years--we went to grad school in broadcasting together at American University way back when. I was so shocked to see the news...I will always remember him warmly as a fun, kind and overall great guy. And I was so happy to read he had reconnected with his faith! My sincere condolences. God bless you, Bob, and your family.

In every person's life there is, hopefully, at least one person – not a relative –that they hold in high regard. Someone who is kind, caring, always concerned about others, and eager to make a difference in this world of ours. Although this kind of friend is often hoped for, and seldom found, I happen to be particularly blessed to have known just such a person – Bob Dodd.

I have known Bob for almost fifteen years - most of that time as my next door neighbor - but it is during the last six years that I have realized that he was a good role model for the term “dedicated, tried and true,” and obviously someone with all those other characteristics that qualified him as a “very special person.”

Shortly after Bob and Vivi separated, I noticed that Bob, even though he no longer lived next door was there most days to walk the dog or do yard work, clean the gutters and the like. He has continued to show concern for Vivi and Chanel and been an integral part of their lives. It takes a very special person, indeed, to do that --- and, Bob, was a very special person.

A few years ago, Bob was over to clean Vivi's gutters. He borrowed my ladder and when he was finished, he asked if he could clean my gutters, also. When I said that I would be kind of embarrassed to have a CFO clean my gutters.....he just laughed and said, "it's only me, Bob Dodd, and I want to do it."

His gracious and dignified demeanor carefully hid a keen mind, a quick wit, a dry sense of humor and a dedicated sense of purpose.

Bob Dodd was a lot of things in his lifetime -- CPA, CFO, VP, husband, Dad, great neighbor and friend --- but the thing that those of us who knew him well will always remember about him is that he was one good human being that will be missed, but, will not be forgotten!

Farewell, my friend.

Kind. Cheerful. Engaging. Quirky. Helpful. I will miss the morning chats -- comparing our daring feats, talking about our animals, dreaming about the next travel adventure, or just efficiently taking care of business. I will miss Bob and feel totally cheated that I only knew him a year. The Campaign will not be the same without him!

Bobb, you were the kindest person. Thoughtful, always stopping by to say hello and ask me about my latest travels or upcoming trips. You took a genuine interest in everyone you met and your thoughtfulness set the tone for our office. I will miss your smile, your kindness, and the way you made everyone you encountered feel so special. May we all carry on that legacy.

It is rare to find such an honest, genuine, fun,and thoughtful person. Bob always went out of his way to get to know each staff member and to check in and ask how they were doing. I was always impressed that he took such an interest and passion in the work that we did- that he made possible with all of his great financial skills. He would attend meetings and presentations, asking questions, wanting to know more about the great work we were doing. He was funny and kind and always brought laughter to our Campaign family. I loved to hear about his travels and adventures. You will be dearly missed.

Bob is simply irreplaceable. He brought to The National Campaign a wonderful combination of smarts, professionalism, kindness, interest and concern for everyone around him, and a great sense of humor and adventure. May you rest in peace knowing you left us all richer for having known you.

I was saddened to learn of Bob's passing. He and I worked together at the Global Development Network. As president of a new organization, I needed a chief financial officer I could rely on to manage the accounts, advise me, and even teach me the ins and outs of accounting. Bob was that man. He helped me greatly, not only professionally, but also by bringing our new team together. Of course, the doughnuts he often brought in for everyone played a part, but in the main it was Bob.

If we are remembered by the contribution we have made to the lives of others, Bob will never be forgotten.

Bob,

We've written hundreds of letters to each other so what can I possibly write now? A day did not go by in the past 26 years that I did not receive at least 5 communication from you. So now--no texts, voicemails, or emails from you again ever! Do you know how strange and sad that feels, Bob? I've been talking to you these last few days, just like I do now. I've ordered cookies for your Wake. We must always have cookies, don't we? You who are happiest when you have something really sweet to eat. Before your trip to Quito, you wrote to me that if anything should happen to you on that trip that you would be at Rainbow Bridge waiting for me with Bunkin. For now, I will keep your ashes with me wherever I live since that's what you wanted. I'll put you right next to Mocha. I'll see you and Bunkin and Mocha at Rainbow Bridge when I get there.

I hope you like the poster boards that Chanel put together for you. I've contacted all of our friends, they will all be there to see you one last time. You always insisted I go with you to help you pick what clothes to buy, even down to running shoes! So, I hope you like the clothes that I picked for you to wear today. You're also wearing a scapular from Mom.

Please continue to hug Chanel with your Spirit; she needs to feel that you're still there for her. You were ALWAYS there for her. She LOVES you. Bob, I will write more later. You know I will. We always wrote, didn't we? Nothing will change. There was and is never any Good Bye between the two of us, is there?!!!

Yours,

Vivi

My Neighbor, My Friend...you were only here a moment and now you are "gone too soon". Thank you for making the trip half way around to world to visit me in Uzbekistan-seem like yesterday. We laughed, we talked, you cooked (those were the best pancakes:). Love you my friend and will miss you forever. Take care of Moki and Sushi UP THERE....Charmaine

I was always impressed and touched by Bob's friendliness and genuine interest in others. He always said, not just "hi," but "how are you?" and he seemed to truly want to know. Bob took an interest in every part of the Campaign's work, not just the financial part which he managed so well, but also programmatic details. I admire his curiosity, openness, and verve. Rest in peace--you will be missed and remembered!

O Brother where art thou? In the arms of Jesus I'm sure. Your big smile and infectious laugh I will forever miss. Two weeks ago I sent your last birthday card with the picture of that vintage Chevy, the Classic 57'. Thanks for letting me share in 52 of them.

Remember “The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything” that I showed you last month? From the chapter on Beautiful Yesterdays: “The present moment holds infinite riches beyond your wildest dreams but you will only enjoy them to the extent of your faith and love. The more a soul loves, the more it longs, the more it hopes the more it finds.” You loved big, longed big, and hoped big. The treasures you found are eternal. Your journey is just beginning, Godspeed my brother. Delilah, Addie and I will love you forever.

Bob, You always made me smile and usually laugh too. I remember the good times we had applying the Campaign for the MOBIS list...never laughed harder which is hard to believe given the boring material. You were a super special guy--so good-natured and fun to work with, even on the dry issues of finance and accounting! You will be sorely missed.I wish I could have said good bye and told you what a great guy you were.

Love to you and your loved ones,

My Dear Friend, Thank you for reconnecting with me after so many years. Sharing our memories from elementary, middle, and high school was so much fun. You had a better memory and helped me relive some funny moments. I treasure the times we had gotten together over the last 10 years, in Annapolis, Arlington, and Harrisonburg. I will miss our visit this year, and our discussions about life in general and spirituality. Your kind, funny, and insightful sense of humor were contagious. Now that you know the answers about this mystery of life and death, keep your family and friends surrounded with your loving energy. You will be dearly missed by the lives you touched here. My deepest sympathy to your family and friends.

Bob, you were easily one of the kindest and most joyful people I've ever known. I don't think I ever saw you angry, impatient, or upset in the entire time I knew you and, in fact, you were always the first person to crack a goofy joke/make a silly pun to lighten the mood in a tense meeting. When I brought my 3 month old son into the office for a visit, you couldn't have been happier to meet him—-and you even cracked jokes about how you two had the same “hair cut”. I know you would have happily gotten down on the floor to play with the baby if the opportunity arose because you always took such joy in the simplest things. You lived life to a fuller extent than most people and I am lucky to have known you. You will be truly missed.
