ROBERT ELDRIDGE Obituary
ROBERT A. ELDRIDGE, JR. DC MPD DET/SGT (Retired)
On March 5, 2016 retired Washington MPD DET/SGT Robert A. Eldridge, Jr. of Arlington, VA passed away peacefully after a long life. Robert was the son of the late Robert, Sr. and Mary Clarke Eldridge; father of Sheila Eldridge and Robert A. Eldridge, III; grandfather of Brent Neighbors and Disa Kjellman; brother of Araminta Anderson, Mary Hayman and Earle F. Eldridge. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Ernestine and Esterine and brothers Vasco and Taliaferro Eldridge. His career on the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department spanned more than 30 years. He was the first black motorcycle police officer and retired as a Detective Sergeant in 1976. A Memorial Service will held at 2 p.m., March 26, 2016 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, 4444 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22204

As an adult I still remember how much Mr Eldridge cared for the neighborhood kids. He made a playground especially for us and made sure no other kids messed it up. We played there everyday after school. I lived next door to Mr. Eldrige my whole life and such a wonderful man he was. He will be missed by the old neighborhood families but his memory will always be in our hearts.
