ROBERT LEE LONG "Bob"
Robert Lee Long "Bob", 90, a lifelong DC native and 35-year resident of Mitchellville, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 25, 1928, in Washington, D.C. to the late Elsie and Henry Long, he was the founder of Long Fence. Bob served his country in World War II in the Merchant Marines and the United States Navy. He was an avid tennis player who loved nature, the water, crabbing, his dog Bailey and spending time with his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and five siblings, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Cronin Luther; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Cronin and Bo DePaola. Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Long; three daughters, Sharon Long of Fairfield, IA, Bobbie Lee (Mike) Ritter of Mitchellville, MD, and Jill (John) DePaola of Davidsonville, MD; seven grandchildren, Bill (Lesley) Cronin, Michael (Tara) Ritter, Jr., Bridget (Darren) Burns, Robert (Michelle) Ritter, Matthew (Sharon) Ritter Sr., Katie DePaola, and John DePaola, Jr.; and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Bob's life at the Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Thursday, October 25 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD on Friday, October 26 at 11 a.m. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens. An online guestbook is available at www.KalasFuneralHomes.com In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bo's Effort www.boseffort.org and St Jude's www.stjude.org.

Miss Marlene I am so sorry. I´m just finding out about Mr. Bob what a wonderful man. Such a good friend with a kind heart and obviously a great businessman but mostly I loving caring husband and father are all over decent human being that anyone should feel honored to have been able to call him friend. I´m not sure if you remember me I was just a teenager my parents were Ted and Terry Prince they thought the world of Mr. Bob he was more like family to us. Sorry this is a little hard because he was just such a good friend to my fatherAnd just finding out about this makes me tear up I hope since time has passed that the hearts of your family and you have been able to come to some sort of peace. I don´t know that you actually ever heal you just learn to move on because you always carry them in your heart and there´s memories and reminders everywhere every day but I hope you guys have been able to come to some sort of peace I wish you and your entire family nothing but love and happiness and when you feel that sunshine down on your face is just so that´s his loveMay God bless you all

am so sorry to hear of Mr. Long's passing. I remember when I first started at Long Fence Company. Mr. Long said Terri I understand you like to play tennis. He gave me the key to his tennis court. Rest in peace Mr. Long.
