ROBERT GEORGE MAYERS

Robert George Mayers, 89, left this life peacefully on October 31, 2022 due to complications related to Multiple Myeloma. Bob was born in Shreve, OH, to George H. Mayers and Blanche Mayers, April 18, 1933. His days in the small, idyllic town shaped a vibrant, intelligent, and kind man. He graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Engineering in 1956 and later got his MBA from American University. He married his first wife, Marion Botsford Mayers, in 1957, with whom he had three children; Terry, Eric, and Jody. They traveled with his employer, IBM in the US and abroad, and finally settled in the Washington, DC area. Sadly, Bob lost Marion to cancer in 1989. In 1991 he married the second love of his life, Louann Mayers, growing the family with her children, Keith, John, and Elise. In addition to his family and friends, Bob's love for his church and faith only grew as the years passed. He was heavily involved with his peers at Potomac United Methodist Church, including acting Financial Officer, loyal choir member and active participation in fund-raising efforts. Life kept Bob busy with church and social activities, and of course, being with the grandchildren. He was an avid reader and photographer, and kept active with tennis, golf, and skiing. He and Louann were able to travel quite a bit, touring Australia/New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, Panama and Europe. Bob's biggest gift was his heart and generosity. Once retired, he quickly volunteered to tutor underprivileged children and prisoners trying to better themselves. He wanted to give back to his community and didn't hesitate at the task. Bob is survived by his wife Louann Mayers, Terry and Garrett Causby, Eric and Tara Mayers, Jody Mayers, Keith and Sharon Foery, John and Delves Foery, Elise Healy, and 13 grandchildren. His memorial service will be held on December 10, 2022, 2 p.m., at Potomac United Methodist Church, 9908 S Glen Rd, Potomac, MD 20854.
