ROBERT NAISMITH

Robert "Bob" Naismith, 85, Alexandria, VA Engineer and Community Leader, passed away at the age of 85 on Friday, July 7, 2023 in Alexandria, VA. Bob was an engineer, loving father, mentor, and devout Christian. Born on May 5, 1938 in Bergen County, NJ, to parents Robert R. Naismith and Helen Naismith.



He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and was a leader in the Air Force ROTC and was assigned to Hill AFB in Ogden, Utah upon graduation. His first job was with Atlantic Research Corp in Prince William County, Virginia building rockets and missiles as well as developing energy systems for 15 years. He then founded his own engineering company Potomac Energy Group in Alexandria, VA from which he retired in 2007. While serving as President Emertius and Founder he received the Virginia Governor's Award and AIA Allied Professional Award for his services.



While Bob believed deeply in the science of engineering, his faith in Jesus Christ was even more important. He was a member and longtime trustee at the Church of the Resurrection in Alexandria,VA, a member of the Engineering Ministries International and The Alexandria Red Cross. He also participated in a tutoring and mentoring program, The Untouchables male youth organization, Alexandria,VA.

Bob is predeceased by his parents and his two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah; and sons William and Christopher; as well as his longtime mentee, Michael.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He hired me at PEG a couple of years before retiring. I am ever grateful for the opportunity he provided me.
