Robert Pierce Obituary

Robert David Pierce "Dave"
Robert David "Dave" Pierce, age 77, of Dumfries, VA, passed away on April 19, 2015 at home, being comforted by his extended family at the end of his battle with pancreatic cancer. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Linda of 54 years earlier this month, and his parents Robert and Elinore Silcott Pierce. As a husband, father and grandfather, he was affectionately known as "Dave," "Dad," "Grandpa," and "G-Man" by his family. Those who knew him remember how he would light up any room with his quick wit and love of life. He is survived by his children Randy (wife Candy) of Peachtree City, GA, Wendy of Alexandria, VA, and Steve of Manassas, VA. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren, Katie (husband Zach) Dicke of Atlanta, GA and David Pierce of Athens, GA. Also survived by his brother Dan Pierce of Parkersburg, WV. As a youth, Dave was passionately involved in Boy Scouts and still maintained his boyhood friendships through Troop reunions. Growing up in Parkersburg, WV, he graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1956 and then attended West Virginia University where he achieved a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. Utilizing his sharp mind, he spent his career working on computer interface in the defense industry, primarily with IBM. That same mind made it almost impossible for anyone else to win a game of Trivial Pursuit or answer a Jeopardy question before him. Dave's hobbies included sailing, skiing, bridge, bowling, Spades, poker and ice cream. There was never an ice cream flavor he did not enjoy. He loved to travel and was always up for any adventure, provided it did not a conflict with a WVU sporting event. Upon retirement, he was able to spend quality time in Ocean City, MD at the beach with his wife and family. There he enjoyed visits to the boardwalk, Sundaes in the Park, bike riding, reading books on the beach, and a few rounds of golf. Dave's friends and acquaintances are welcome to join his extended family to celebrate his life on Sunday, April 26 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home on Dale Boulevard in Dale City. In lieu of flowers, his family asks for donations in his name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org).
