Ruth Hacker Obituary

Of Potomac, MD, passed away peacefully February 10, 2024 in Richmond, VA, just shy of her 99th birthday. She was born in Danville, PA, to the late Edward F. and Katherine (nèe Rogers) Fallon. She had fond memories of living with her brothers and sisters above their parents' confectionery shop on Mill Street in Danville. She graduated from Danville High School in 1942. She moved to the Washington, DC area after graduation to work for the federal government. In the U.S. Attorney's office, she worked for Joseph Gillespie, Senator John Warner, and Bob Short. She retired from the Department of Health and Human Services/FDA in Rockville, MD after a long career.

She was a devout Catholic with strong Irish roots. As a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, Rockville, MD since 1968, she was active in the Rosary Altar Society and Sodality. She had a great love for family, knitting, and traveling.

Ruth and her late husband Richard B. Hacker (LCDR US Navy) were married for more than sixty-four years and were long-time residents of Potomac, MD. Along with their two sons, they traveled the U.S. extensively, but their favorite family vacations were in Daytona Beach, FL.

Ruth is predeceased by her husband Richard Hacker; son John Hacker, daughter-in-law Linda Hacker; two brothers, Robert Fallon and Edward Fallon; and three sisters, Jean Fallon, Rosemary Fallon, and Frances Papas. She is survived by son Brian Hacker, daughter-in-law Mary Hacker; three granddaughters, Jessica Trivizas (Andrew), Tracy MacDonnell (Mark), Michelle "Shelly" Hacker; and five great grandchildren Demetri, Xavier, and Niko Trivizas, and Maeve and Shay MacDonnell.

The family will receive friends at Pumphrey Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave. Rockville, MD 20850 on Thursday, February 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1513 Dunster Rd., Rockville, MD 20854 on Friday, February 23 at 10:30 a.m.
