Ruth Scott Obituary

Ruth K. Scott was born in Providence, Rhode Island on April 6, 1924. She spent her formative years in Rhode Island, where she met her future husband, Winfield (Scotty) S. Scott, during grade school. From the moment they met, their attention was solely on each other. They were subsequently married on June 10, 1944, which was four days after Scotty graduated from West Point. Their love for each other was unsurpassed throughout their marriage. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother of four children, accompanying her family throughout numerous military transfers across the United States and Europe, moving 29 times in 30 years due to military assignments. Following Scotty's final assignment, they settled in Lake Barcroft, Virginia. In 2020, Ruth relocated to The Fairfax at Ft. Belvoir.
Ruth had a passion for music, nature and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed walking through the Lake Barcroft neighborhood with her close friend and neighbor. Her hobbies included bird watching, crocheting, and knitting, and she took great pride in creating personalized Christmas stockings for her children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as "Nana" by all who knew her and "Nana Banana" to her 16 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, Ruth cherished her role within her family.
She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 surrounded by her family and loving aide and friend, Tegegnu. Ruth was predeceased by her mother, father, stepfather, two sisters, brother , husband, Winfield S. Scott; daughter-in-law Mary Scott; and son-in-law Mike Meuleners. She is survived by her four children, Bette Meuleners, Carla Thompson(Dick), Bruce Scott, and Jeanine Carter (Stuart); as well as 16 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Please visit demainefunerals.com for updates.
