Sandy played a very important role in our family. She met my sister Katherine (or known as growing up, Kathy) in approximately 1974, and my sister reportedly would not let Sandy leave DC. She was my sisters best friend and her Maid of Honor. My mother also became close to her, important as well after my sister died in 1999. She became a constant support to my mother as I lived away, regularly visited her, would routinely pick up items for her, and also someone I would rely on, although I only did so when my mother was ill. She was also the godmother to my sisters son, and tried to sustain this relationship over 20 years. Despite this, or in addition to this, I appreciated only recently the true depth of her caring that bonded her to my sister and my mother, and of Sandys reaction when my mother passed away last year.
Therefore, it is all three of us that can appreciate her true loss. My condolences to Jim and Caroline.

My deepest love and sympathy to Jim Caroline, baby Dennin, JG's family, all of Sandy and Jim's families, but also to all the many people to whom Sandy's heart touched. We share something unknown to any others. Sandy was special..... and taught us how to live; always caring, always giving, always smiling/laughing, always sharing, and always loving. Our same Sandy was able to give us the same until her very last breath. She taught us about death and how to die. We will Love You wonderful, Sandy forever and ever with both a smile and a tear. Rest in peace my very dear friend,
Betsy, Hilton head.

Dear Jim and family: John and I were so sad to hear that Sandy passed away - she was so courageous and full of life. I hope we can all find ways to carry her legacy forward. The blessing of a big family like ours is that we can lean on each other in times like this. We are thinking of you and will remember her in contributions to Father Muth' s immigration work. Fondly with prayers.
