I signed the Guest Book shortly after Sarah's passing. But will share my thoughts of this beautiful person - Sarah was a shining light in my life as her patient. Sarah and I would have a few laughs every time I would visit her - and she would always tell me "Mrs. Paone" you are a hoot!

We are so unbelievably sad, how can this be? I just googled Sarah Pettrone to refer a friend as her son broke his wrist tonight. Sarah was a lovely bright doctor to our family. Her bedside manor with our sons surgery 3 years ago was remarkable. He was 11, scared, and need a rod in his arm. Sarah and I chatted that night bc of his pain. Little did I know she was battling her own pain. Our hearts are broken for the family's loss of an angel to so many. Our deepest condolences. Love the Kyle family

I'm so sad, I just found out Dr. Pettrone passed. Sarah performed surgery on my hands in July 2012. She was so kind and always happy. I can't believe she is gone. I'm so sorry of her passing.

I miss Sarah daily, as I'm sure most who knew her do. She brought so much joy into the world. Sarah made several trips with Surgicorp International, giving her time and medical skills to help those who otherwise would be without. I know how much she wanted to continue this work. Surgicorp's upcoming trip to Bhutan will be the 2nd Memorial trip in honor of Sarah. Because Sarah cared so much about others, and did so much to help make a difference in the world, I make a point of donating money to Surgicorp, in her name, as often as I can. It's not that I don't need that money for 100 other things. I do. Then, I think of Sarah and all she did for others, and I write Surgicorp a check. It's a way of honoring Sarah, while following her example. It makes me feel closer to her, and I'm proud to be part of the important work that Surgicorp International does.

I have been a patient of Dr. Frank Pettrone since 1987. During a visit in June 2015, I expressed my condolences to him and his family on the loss of Sarah. Although I never met her, I am sure I passed her in the hallway during my yearly visits to Dr. Pettrone. Before I left the office, I found out that Sarah and I share the same birthday...I am humbled and honored to have the same birthday as her. I will continue to pray for the Pettrone family.

I have also thought of Sarah and the entire Pettrone family often over the past year. Although I hadn't seen Sarah much in recent years, I will always remember what a brilliant, modest, kind, and wonderfully hilarious person she was in our high school days. And while her time here was too short, I'm in awe - but not at all surprised - by just how much she accomplished and how many lives she touched. My prayers go out to the entire Pettrone family.

I have thought about Sarah so often over the past year. Whenever I think of her, I remember her jumping for joy. Literally. She was one spunky kid and such a great friend. I miss her a lot. I hope the Pettrone family is doing okay. You are all such a wonderful bunch. I think of you all often as well! Lots of love to you.
July 27, 2015
Frank was our family orthopedic surgeon, whom we seemed to need all the time as our kids were growing up. Sarah and her sister were the age of four of our five children and we shared soccer teams and the wonder of watching young children grow into amazing adults. Sarah was loved by everyone who knew her and it was very satisfying to see our children's generation use her medical care for their children and rave about what an exceptionally good surgeon she was. Sarah will always be remembered and missed. It is hard to imagine that a full year has gone by. Love from Bobbie and Bill Kilberg, Jon, Sarah, Gillian, Cameron and Andrew.

I was a patient of Dr. Sarah Pettrone, repair of a broken hand, and her father, Achilles Tendon repair. My wife and I would joke that I had the family as my team of surgeons. Wonderful person. Would the peace that she was an exceptional person comfort those that have been impacted by her life.

We heard the message on WAMU as well this morning, and were so sorry to hear this news. Our daughter was a patient of Dr. Pettone's when she'd broken her wrist several years ago. As soon as we met her, Dr. Pettrone immediately put us at ease. She had an excellent rapport with our daughter and was a wonderful, caring person. Our heart goes out to you all in your loss.

My belated condolences to the family of Dr. Sarah C. Pettrone. I just found out about her untimely death while visiting Commonwealth Orthopadics web-site. I have been a patient of Commonwealth for almost 15 years and was so saddened to see the "In Memoriam" area on their site. My son, Matthew Brewer, was a patient of Dr. Sarah's after breaking his wrist while playing football at BWHS 6-7 yrs ago. She was such an inspirational woman ~ so very bright, friendly and witty; so very talented. I grieve not only for her family but for all of us who will no longer have access to her exceptional care. Dr. Sarah was a wonderful doctor and human being and will be sorely missed. With love, Cheri & Matthew Brewer

I just now am hearing about the loss of Dr. Pettrone. She was my hand surgeon and fixed my middle finger. Without her, I would not have a functioning hand. Sarah performed a hemi-hamate autograft on my right hand in 2009 -- at the time my daughter was nearly a year old. When I had my post op with her, she asked how I was doing and I broke down in tears from the stress of everything. Sarah got teary eyed too and spoke with me about getting through it and next steps. I will always remember her for that..she took the time and truly cared. She was a special person and doctor. Very sorry for you loss.

I, like many others here, simply met Sarah through her medical service, where she fixed my broken hand and in turn was the most caring and fun about it. I saw her once a week, every week for roughly two months, and she was every bit as sweet as she was smart. I was so thankful to have her helping me at the time, and it honestly breaks my heart to have heard of her untimely passing. She was wonderful and the moments of pure beauty and happiness she left with so many will not be forgotten.

While I was seeing one of the other physicians at Commonwealth this morning for something other than my wrist/thumb discomfort, I learned of Dr Sarah's passing. I had been one of her patients during the Fall of 2012 and 2013 having been referred by her twice for injections before deciding to have surgery for joint replacement. I kept hoping she would return soon not knowing her reason for being out on leave, I was waiting for her return to have my surgery later in the year. Her contagious smile and pleasant personality reassured me each time I could handle the injections that I was about to get. I am so saddened for your family's loss of this wonderful care-giving physician, daughter and sister. I will miss greatly being her patient and seeing her smile as she entered the room. May God bless your family during this time of sadness and loss.

My heart felt condolences too the family and loved ones. I am very saddened by this tremendous loss with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes. I still remember the first time I met with Sarah for the first time at the C-O-R lansdowne office for my right thumb tendinitis (2008-2009). She was always very personable, fun loving and always quick to diagnose a problem and explained pros and cons while being companionate. Over the years and many treatments under the belt (TFCC repair left wrist and several cortisone shots to the wrist/thumb) Sarah became a friend and family to me. Sarah also treated my daughter and nephew. I pray that Sarah rests in peace and she will be missed by many. I have many memories of her will cherish them forever, Sarah's legacy will live forever in the hearts of everyone she has touched.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of this gifted surgeon and wonderful human being. I thought of Sarah as my rock-star surgeon. She performed several procedures on my hands to relieve the contractures and made it possible for me to continue playing music for my own enjoyment. To the entire Pettrone family - I was always amazed that both Dr. Frank and Dr. Sarah treated my Husband and I. I had an odd cyst on my hand, Dr. Zanetti sent me immediately to Dr. Sarah and she recommended it be removed. Turned out to be a bee sting and I will never forget laughing with her about my "odd cyst." My heart is broken for all of you. I met Dr. Pettrone only once when she was evaluating me for left hand trigger finger and right hand carpel tunnel issues. Jonnie had done the pre-eval and we had a blast laughing and making fun. Dr. Pettrone came in and continue to education me with options for healing and we laughed together also. She operated on my wrist 8 months ago, curing my issue with her great surgical skills, and I was waiting for her return, so that she could operate on my other wrist. Not only was Dr. Pettrone an incredibly gifted surgeon, but she was also such a kind, warm and compassionate doctor. Rarely do you find such a combination of traits in one person. She was one in a million, a true treasure and she will live on in the memories of so many people whose lives she touched. I know that I will never forget her. May the knowledge of how beloved Dr. Pettrone was by so many people be a comfort to her family, friends and colleagues during this time of grief. My prayers are with you all.

I only met her once when overuse from doing too many massages landed me and a swollen wrist in her office. I immediately felt CARED for and at ease. When I met her dad a few months later, I made sure to tell him the amazing bedside manner had NOT skipped a generation. May the kindness and care your family shares with the world come back to you many times over.

Praying that the Lord will comfort you during this time in the loss of your child. I remember her as she operated on my wrist. And then called me a few days later to see how I was doing. I'll never forget her. Know that you all are in my prayers.

Frank and family,
I can still see Sarah as a 12-13 year old McLean Lightning soccer player before we moved back to California. So smart, team-oriented and coachable that she din't really need any coaching. I can only imagine what a great doc she made.
Words are hard to come by right now. I hope you are finding some comfort in your faith and in reflecting on the special impact Sarah had on so many.
Our very best, Cliff & Diane
