Rabbi Elster met with me years ago in a synagogue in Alexandria, VA where I lived while stationed on Anacostia as a new Naval Officer. He heard me in my time of need. I found this obituary today when I looked him up after remembering his kindness to me. May the light of the Universe find you still, dear Rabbi.

Elana,
Your warm hug of comfort was so much appreciated when my mother passed. I am truly sorry I was not present to give you the much needed comfort upon your father's passing as you gave to me. Knowing true comfort comes from the God of Abraham, may HIS words sooth your hearts and give you and your family lasting peace and solace. Job 33:30

Deepest condolences on the loss of Rabbi Elster. We loved having Rabbi and Dr. Elster serve our Ohio congregation in the sixties. They did so with a blend of brilliance, tenacity and deep spirituality. Personally, their service was part of my own motivation. May Rabbi's memory be a blessing on the lives he has left behind to mourn his loss.

Shulamith, sending you lots of love. I remember with great fondness when I'd visit and Shelly would greet me so warmly. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.
