I knew Sheldon at Georgetown University where he participated in the creation of a number of original musicals. I can still see him at the piano working out arrangements, coaching singers, and playing for public performers. Always quiet, always the gentleman. Confident, low-key, genial and funny. A remarkable gentleman. I cannot, will not, believe that we will not meet again at another time, in a better place. I send love to all of his family.

To the Goldberg family,
My friendship began with "shelly" when he was a surgical resident at GWU and I was in a nursing leadership role. Smart, humble and caring, never demonstrating a top flight ego, even though he was a top flight person. My family relocated to southern Maryland, and I became a member of the senior level staff. How wonderful when I learned that Sheldon relocated to Calvert County to start a practice. Throughout my career at CMH, Dr. Goldberg was the consummate gentleman, always a first class person .As we lived on Potts Point in Huntingtown for 27 Years we also shared a love of the Patuxent River, his appreciation for nature, fishing and the waterways. I am honored to have known him, blessed by his friendship and have to believe he is in God's hands, sharing his love of music and his passion for caring. Sheldon was about patients first and his values set a gold standard for us all. God bless Dr. Goldberg, a truly wonderful person, you will be missed.

As a close friend of Sheldon's daughter, Rebecca, I have had the wonderful opportunity of getting to know him. At first he came across as a quiet, intelligent man. However, through the years I got to see the often hilarious side of Dr.Goldberg. When I would witness joking between Becca and her dad he would laugh and say, "Do you talk to your dad that way?" I would play along and say, "No way Dr.Goldberg." Of course there was also his intensely caring, and giving character. Always willing to give advice and lend a helping hand, no matter how busy he was. After 7 years of knowing Doctor Goldberg I asked him to be the surgeon to do a lumpectomy for me. I was scared that it might be awkward but honestly, I have never been more comfortable with a doctor. He would ask when the last time I saw Rebecca was and ask about my current and future endeavors. As if all of these amazing characters weren't enough, he has been a perfect husband to Ramona. It is so rare to see two people who love each other so deeply. I'm so fortunate to have known such a funny, caring, kind, and loving man.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. So, my friend these are the things I wish for you on your next journey. May there always be a fish on your line, A Baby Grand for you to tickle, A cool OR suite for you to operate to the sweet sounds of Madonna in the background with an "A" team by your side. I am at loss for words on the sudden and tragic passing of Dr. Goldberg. I was fortunate to have had the pleasure and privilege of knowing him and working with him in the 1980's at Calvert Memorial, and he successfully performed my Mother's mastectomy 27 years ago. I respected him as a person, as a professional and as a coworker. Obviously he touched the lives of many, and I hope he realized the positive and lasting impact he has made on so many people and the community. My heart goes out to his family and all who knew him.

Dr Goldberg was an outstanding surgeon and musician. At the College of Southern Maryland we were able to know Sheldon through his music that he an Ramona played so beautifully together. He loved the Boesendorfer and played in concerts and fundraisers for us. In April he was our featured performer for the HS piano competition. He spoke so eloquently to the students. His music and love of the piano will be sorely missed in Southern Maryland and at CSM.

Dear Sheldon
You were a true friend and unbelievable colleague. I knew you for nine years and can safely say that we never had a single problem working together. In our hazardous environment this seemed impossible yet you pulled it off. One for all and all for one that's how we ran our services. You covered for me and when you left for Montana you signed out to me and as always there were no troubles with covering your patients. Then came the big Bang on Friday when we heard in the OR you were missing in Montana. I and the OR with families, yes the whole community have been in shock and disbelieve.
We, the remaining Surgeons know that we can never replace you - yet your legacy lives on. We will cover for all times now. Everyone is getting taken care of. We miss you and keep your memory forever.

GOLSH- a mneumonic commonly known to the Calvert Memorial Hospital family. Oh, how the CMH family misses Dr Goldberg. And my husband's call to his office for an appointment last Thursday(7/28/2011), was answered with, "it will be a few weeks, as"...my husband answered the statement..."he's in Montana fishing, isn't he?" My husband's love of fishing, along with Dr. Goldberg's love of fishing, created a solid doctor/patient bond...and for my husband, it was "I'll do whatever Dr. Goldberg says". Heartfelt prayers go out to his wife, children and family.
Doing one of many things that he did best.

I had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Goldberg first as a teacher and mentor when he graciously allowed me to do a surgical rotation with him as a student. Later as a practicing PA I relied heavily on him as I trusted him above all others when one of my patients needed a surgeon. He was a gifted clinician, surgeon, healer, listener, mentor, musician, and friend to so many in the community. He was truly inspirational! Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children, and assistant Debbie. He will be sorely missed but his legacy lives on in so many in Calvert County and beyond.

May I be a protector to those without protection
A leader for those who journey
And a boat, a bridge, a passage
For those desiring the further shore.
May the pain of every living creature
Be completely cleared away
May I be the doctor, the medicine
And may I be the nurse
For all the sick beings in the world
Until everyone is healed.
Just like space
And the great elements such as earth,
May I always support the life
Of all boundless creatures.
And until they pass away from pain
May I also be a source of life
For all the realms of varied beings
That reach unto the ends of space.

Dr Goldberg was my surgeon in November 2009 when he diagnosed me with breast cancer. He had taken very good care of my mother in 2003 when she too had breast cancer. This was the scariest time of my life and Dr Goldberg was so wonderful during this difficult time. I do not know what I am going to do without him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
