Stephanie Holzman Obituary

Stephanie Maria Holzman was born on August 31, 1955 in Oak Park, IL. After graduating from Arizona State University, she moved to Washington, DC, where she worked in a variety of administrative support positions for the US Department of State, including in the Bureaus of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Counterterrorism and Consular Affairs. Stephanie was a small person who was known by an entire generation of State Department officials and staff. Her performance in a variety of positions was recognized by many awards throughout her career. A proud member of the civil service, Stephanie encouraged everyone she met, including caregivers in her later years, to join the US Government. She was a pet lover and was also passionate about professional sports, especially anything involving her beloved Chicago area teams. She was a devout Roman Catholic her entire life. She retired from the State Department in 2012 and passed away May 22, 2025 at Malta House in Hyattsville, MD after a long illness. She was predeceased by her parents Esther and Nicholas Holzman and leaves no immediate survivors. Funeral arrangements are private.

Steph you were one of a kind and a genuine person. You truly loved and took care of your friends and family. We lost contact after State and you left your place in VA. I missed you then and will miss you more now. RIH friend

The best things in life aren't things, they're memories. Stephie, I will always cherish the memory of when I first met you at Consular Affairs. You were larger than life with the biggest heart. I loved you instantly. You were a pistol and weren´t going to get pushed around. I am so glad that you have embraced me with your unselfish friendship. Rest in Peace Dear Friend.

Stephanie was one-of-a-kind. No one who ever worked with her or came across her will ever forget her. She was kindhearted spitfire who always kept us in stitches. Rest in peace, Stephanie.

No one who knew Stephie will ever forget her. She had an outsized personality, a fierce will, and she knew her way around a Rosary better than a lot of priests. I fully expect that Jesus personally welcomed her, and I hope she puts a good word in for the rest of us. Godspeed, Stephanie Holzmann!

You were a good friend when called upon for help, or just to spend a few moments comparing notes in our Alexandria neighborhood.
Rest in peace, Stephanie.
