Steven Immergut Obituary

Immergut

Steven Todd Immergut

Steven Todd Immergut, beloved father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on May 29, 2023. His sudden departure leaves a great void in the lives of so many, including his wife Lulu Cheng Immergut, his sons Sidney and Elon, his parents Mark and Reba Immergut, his siblings Scott, Darla, Debra, and John, his nephews Bridger and Joe, his extended family, and countless friends and business associates. Steven built a vibrant career in health and pharmaceuticals, most recently as the Senior Vice President, Head of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations at Global Blood Therapeutics, a biotech company focused on therapies for underserved patient communities, starting with sickle cell disease. He also worked at Bayer, Pfizer, and was Associate Commissioner at the FDA during the Obama administration.

Above all, Steven had a genius for human connection. He was a caring husband, son, and sibling, an endlessly fun and active man with deep and enduring friendships, and most of all, a devoted father to his two young sons, coaching their teams and teaching them to love tennis, football and Bruce Springsteen, among many other things. Steven was born on October 9, 1966 in Iowa City, Iowa, and grew up in Rockville and Potomac. He attended Churchill High School and Syracuse University, and earned a Master's Degree in Public Health at George Washington University. A memorial service will take place at Washington Hebrew Congregation in DC on Wednesday, May 31, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Washington Tennis & Education Foundation, an organization that supports children in adverse circumstances through education and the sport of tennis. Checks can be sent "in honor of Steven Immergut" to Washington Tennis & Education Foundation, c/o John Borden, 200 Stoddert Place SE, Washington, DC 20019.

Steven and I were very close friends in 1979 and 1980. We then were at different high schools and I moved away from DC. I can picture the house in Potomac and Dr. and Mrs. Immergut immediately with fond memories.

Steve was an incredibly supportive colleague and a fun person. I enjoyed working with him in different contexts, and appreciated all the guidance and contacts he shared with me through the years. He was a great guy and I feel honored to have known him. He will be very missed!

Steven was a kind, fun and engaging person. When he and Lulu moved in before Sidney was born, the whole alley felt we hit the jackpot with the new neighbors. When they moved, they remained part of the community, coming to events. Our hearts go out to Lulu, Sydney and Elon. We feel honored to have known Steven and share the sorrow of many. RIP.
