Remembering Sue
I love her music. I loved her music when she was a music counselor at the summer camp that we both attended. I loved her music when she worked with little ones at the pre-school that my wife taught in. I loved her music when she and the Fabrangen Fiddlers played and sang at our son’s Bar Mitzvah celebration. I will love her music always.
I love her personality. She had a unique knack of making all those around her feel happy.
Most of all, I love that world-illuminating smile that remained brightly lit from the time she was a teen. It still warms me to remember it.
I hope she finds eternal peace.

I was a participant of the Jewish Folk Song Society during the late 80's until relocating in the mid 90's. I have fond memories of singing and learning with Sue. The highlights were the potluck dinners where we ate and sang from the "red book" and the "blue book." We were surrounded by Sue's passionate voice, the warmth of her home, and lots of laughter.
May we all find comfort in our memories of Sue and how she touched so many souls.

This dynamic woman with infectious joie de vivre not only possessed extraordinary musical talent, but also a gift for uniting people and making all feel welcome. Let us honor Sue's memory by treating each other with respect, kindness, and compassion.

Sue possessed a voice that was more an outward manifestation of her neshamah than a pair of vocal cords. It's often said about people that their music or their words "touch" people, but anyone who knew Sue realized that with her it was profoundly true. We've lost an irreplaceable spirit, and a beautiful friend.

Sue's music and the wonderful gift of "musical inclusion" were a great boon to me when I became part of the congregation of Beth Ami. We all remember with great joy her singing and dancing and her role as Cantor!!I'd like to think she's become part of some great Heavenly Choir!! Or perhaps she's getting one together?!!

When I was 36 years old, my husband died from brain cancer. My son was only 6 years old. At this painful and amazing time of transition, I met Sue Roemer. Both Cantor Roemer and Rabbi
Jack Luxemberg "saved my life" with their love, grace, and compassion. Words alone cannot pay tribute to Sue, but I will simply say the following: Sue was an angel. She was a very great healer. For the rest of my days, I will be grateful to her and to the "light" that was/is her essence. I hope that Sue's family members read these Guest Book comments one day; all the magnificent and heartfelt sharings may bring them some solace and peace.

On behalf of my mother, Rita Hepner, and I, please accept our most heartfelt condolences for the loss of your wife/mother/sister/friend, etc. I remember going to the pot lucks at Peter and Sue's or the Brickman's and listening to the voices rejoice in songs and comraderie. She will be sorely missed but her spirit will live on.

Sail on Home in Peace
She taught me how
to swim
and gave my life
a new beginning
She helped repair some
long time wrongs
and at times of trial
she let me know
I still belonged
This morning
I learned that she is gone
A sweet soul has crossed
to the other side
A woman of valour,
strength and power
has left us
and now joined
the angels' chorus
May her voice be clear
and on a steady course
From all bodily restraints
may she now be released
And may she sail on
home in peace

Sue was a wonderful presence who brought her spirit to the synagogue and the concert hall. Her spirit, trapped in a failing body, now soars free, but we will miss her.

Under Cantor Roemer's gentle guidance, I chanted torah at Temple Beth Ami every Yom Kippur from my Bat Mitzvah until I graduated from University of Maryland. Her beautiful soaring voice and joyful presence are some of my fondest memories of my Jewish education. I am so sorry to learn of her loss. My love goes out to her family and all who are blessed to have known her.

I am one of many who knew Sue through the Fiddlers and she sang and played at two of our bar mitzvot-it always amazed me that a date was reserved by only a handshake.
I participated in the JCC chorale group led by Sue and I felt touched by the news of her illness and saddly her passing.

My great memories of Cantor Roemer start when she was my music teacher in nursery school. She helped me with my Bat Mitzvah and was a great adult influence in my life. I will carry her music in my heart forever!

Thank you Sue for bringing in the Joy of Music to Our Joy of worship.
You made our Lives lighter and taught us much. You were always in my heart and soul since you left Temple Beth Ami. We were kindred souls from the '60's and all that those times meant. You will always be with me.

Dear Sue,
I felt your presence in the sanctuary and heard your voice in the songs the Fiddlers played last night. Thank you for living your gifts and bringing so much to all those who were blessed to learn from you. May your neshama soar...
