SURESH KUMAR DHIR
Suresh Kumar Dhir passed away on December 7, 2022 in Potomac, Maryland. A loving husband, father, brother, friend, colleague, and community leader, he devoted himself tirelessly to the people and causes he cared about. Born in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India on November 5, 1934, he spent many of his early years living and studying abroad, finally settling down in the DC area. As a devoted civil servant for the U.S. Government, he traveled to more than 80 countries and became fluent in seven languages. A born actor, Suresh performed in many plays over the years, including at the Kennedy Center. His favorite activities included bridge, golf, acting, travel, and making his loved ones laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Shakuntala S. Dhir; brothers Surendra Dhir and Rajendra Dheer; his daughters Shailja Gower, Angelika Jahnigen, Gita Dhir, and Sheetal Dhir; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held at Pumphrey Funeral Home on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, MD at 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2022. In lieu of flowers or contributions, donations can be made to your local art organization.
