Sylvia Oser, 90 years old, beloved mother of Eric (Ruth) LeRoy Oser, Karl Martin Oser and Mark (Susan) Kevin Oser, died in Castle Rock, Colorado on May 7, 2013. Sylvia was born February 7, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. She was raised in Weehawken, New Jersey. She was married to the late Jack Oser. They lived their married lives in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Sylvia enlisted in the WAVES during World War Two and served as a photographer's mate, attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class. She was proud to have served with Ronald Reagan in Alexandria, Virginia and remembered taking photographs of Eleanor Roosevelt christening Navy warships during the war. She met her husband, Jack, also in the Navy, while he was on shore leave from his duties as a Petty Officer Second Class Fire Controlman aboard the USS Suwannee (CVE-27). Mrs. Oser was the daughter of the late Hyman and Mary Puteska. She was predeceased by her brother Jacob Puteska of Tenafly, New Jersey and her sister Anna Lippman, of Santa Rosa, California. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Chozick of Cliffside Park, New Jersey, three sons, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 9500 Riggs Road, Adelphi, MD, on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. Shiva will take place at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Ronald Oser on May 13 and 14.
