On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, THEODORE HOWARD "Ted" ROSEN of Bethesda, MD, passed away peacefully at his home after an extended illness. Ted was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, son, friend and well-respected professional. It took a rare disease, corticobasal degeneration, to topple a rare individual a month before his 77th birthday. An exceptionally giving person, Ted playfully brought out the best in others. He was drum major of his high school marching band, which nurtured his love of music and conducting. During his spare time as an adult, he was an umpire for Little League and middle and high school baseball games, occasionally ejecting parents and coaches who forgot that the game was intended as fun. Ted served on many community boards, bringing equanimity to often-heated discussions. He was active in his synagogue, participating on many committees and graciously teaching young and old the art of blowing shofar. Playing Monopoly was the one exception; however, as he adopted a cutthroat approach. Ted is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Linda (née Peller), whom he met in junior high band, as well as two wonderful daughters and the incredible men they brought into his life, Sara (Dan) Friedman and Julia (Joel) Martin. They will miss his nonstop puns and maybe some of his 'dad' jokes, but they have a storehouse of amazing memories to sustain them. His two perfect grandsons, Logan and Simon Martin, inherited his love of baseball, joke-telling and a fascination with trains. He was predeceased by his sister Joan (surviving, David) Geber. Ted graciously welcomed two cats into the marriage; four others followed, two of which will now miss him dearly. A host of family and friends will recall his whimsical approach to life and cherish reminders of good times through Ted's prolific photography. He mentored countless graduate students in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at GWU and UMBC. His classes reached capacity quickly, because his students valued his sometimes unorthodox teaching methods, including wearing different hats such as Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat, Uncle Sam and a Nats baseball cap to emphasize the many roles we each play on the job. Ted also worked as an independent consultant in the private and public sector pursuing equity in hiring and promotion practices and helping individuals deepen their self-knowledge to enhance group dynamics and productivity. He shared his knowledge and teaching skills worldwide through USAID programs in developing countries. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, 11 a.m. at the Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park Chapel, Clarksburg, MD. Shiva will be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Social Service Agency Hospice,
https://www.jssa.org or to the Friends Club, a non-profit social club for men with dementia, 6601 Bradley Blvd., #3042, Bethesda, MD 20817. Arrangements entrusted to TORCHINSKY HEBREW FUNERAL HOME, 202-541-1001.
