To the Family of Jakie Mathews:

As a former team mate on Howard U. baseball team and a long time co-worker with the DC Dept. of Rec. of Jakie's, I too share in your loss. Jakie was a one of a kind person. Always pleasant and ready to help in any way that he could. He was a true team player, both in sports and at work. As you do your grief work, always remember: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy path. Prov.3:6&7

Kellie, my heart goes out to you and your family. I know exactly what you are going through right now and I share in the pain of your loss. Let the joy of the Lord be your strength in this time of need. God will bring you through this as he has done before. Let your wonderful memories of Jakey be the light that leads you to peace.

Love, Birdie

For years I rode my bike in front of Mr. Mathews' house and played in the alley behind it. As an adult, I often ran into Mr. Mathews downtown and he remembered me and my family (Williams) from all those years ago. He was a kind man who will be missed. My prayers go out to the family.
