Virginia Cackler Obituary

VIRGINIA JOYCE CACKLER
Passed away on December 3, 2011. Beloved wife of Don, mother of Steve and Mark, mother-in-law of Nancy and Barbara, and grandmother of Joe, Jack, Charles, Rachel, Maggie and Christina.Born in 1929, she was a daughter of Morganfield, Kentucky, and lived in Springfield, OH, Indianapolis, IN, and Moline, IL, before her final move to Virginia in 1995. A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, she was active in her community and her church. She worked in her 20s as a medical lab tech, helped found the first integrated pre-school in Indianapolis, and, after returning to college in her 30s to get her Bachelor's degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, was a sociology teacher at Black Hawk Junior College in Moline, IL. She loved life, her dogs, to cook, to travel, to play bridge, to enjoy a bourbon and water in the evening, and, especially, she loved to read. Most of all, she loved her family, who loved her.A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 23, at 10 a.m., at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1545 Chain Bridge Road (corner of Westmoreland Street), McLean, Virginia 22101 and Graveside Service at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Heifer International, PO Box 8058, Little Rock, AR 72203, www.heiferfoundation.org or N Street Village Shelter and Recovery Center for Homeless Women, 1333 N Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005, www.nstreetvillage.org.

Joyce was warm and kind and had the sense of humor necessary to raise two boys. Whenever I talked to her, I always had the feeling that she knew a lot more than she was letting on, which is probably another reason why Mark and Steve turned out ok. Hers was a well that ran very deep! She was a wonderful soul who raised two sons any parent would be very proud of, both for who they are and for the children that they then raised. I feel blessed to have been among her circle.

Joyce's passing has left a void in the world. She was always a positive influence in so many lives as well as a caring, trusted friend to those of us priveleged to have known her. A remarkable woman in every way!

Mrs. Cackler will always be fondly remembered as a person who embraced life fully and treasured those who were dear to her. Even though our paths have not crossed for years, I can honestly state that she was one of the special people in my life. God bless her and all the Cacklers for the wonderful influence they have had on others. May you have comfort knowing that she was loved by many and we share your loss.

Joyce was one of God's gracious people. In many ways she witnessed to our Lord. Among her greatest gifts was the family she and Don gave us that continues in the lives of her precious grandchildren. Rest eternal grant her, O Lord; let light perpetual shine upon her.
