Walter Johnson Obituary

With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Walter Anthony Johnson, affectionally known as "Tony", on April 22, 2025, at the age of 75. A native Washingtonian, he was a cherished husband, devoted father, endearing son, brother and friend, who left this world too soon. Locally referred to as "Cheesecake Tony", he was a master cheesecake chef and his 31 varieties delighted the gastronomically adventurous. Tony is survived by his wife, Sheila Morgan Johnson; their sons Jermaine Anthony Johnson and Akil Omari Johnson; his mother Mary Louise Johnson; Betty Long and Eileen Gwynn, his sisters, and his younger brother Pastor Michael Johnson, along with a host of nephews, a niece, aunt and uncle, cousins and dear friends. Memorial service will be held on May 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church, 610 Rhode Island Avenue, N.E., Washington, DC 20002. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation in Tony's name.
